I am new to vaping - I like cartomizers so I ordered about 30 of them - however I noticed that many of the cartomizers did not screw on the battery all the way. On my first and second battery - I just tightened the cartomizer all the way down - forced it - and ended up ruining the battery - because the centerpost in the cartomizer created depressions in the battery centerpost and no other cartomizers would work properly. I ended up ordering 3 more batteries - however now, I very lightly twist the cartomizer on until I get contact or a slight resistance - if it does not go on all the way down then I remove it and I take a steel dowel and push in (or down) the centerpost on the cartomizer, then it fits properly on the battery and vapes really well. I don't mess with the battery centerpost at all since cartomizers are not all identical (ie threads and centerpost height)...and I would rather preserve the integrity of the battery. I have not had to adjust a cartomizer centerpost out (or up) yet but I noticed that many people on-line do that as well. I also found a really great product at Radio Shack - it is called an electrical contact pen - and basically you can draw like a pen where ever you need to restore an electrical contact. It works on the threads and it restored the two ruined centerposts on first and second batterys.

Great tip! I have a couple PVs with nasty contacts (I've always just used alcohol and a q-tip), but this sounds like a great tool.
What's the brand of those cartomizers? I would not suggest forcing the cartomizers onto the battery. Probably why the first battery you use shorted out.
Is there a reason why you need the carto to screw all the way down? The posts only need to make contact with eachother- I screw mine down(which are attys, but same difference) just until they make contact, and maybe a 1/8 turn more at most.
I just snug my down. I've never had one that won't fire if it's making contact as long as it's not a dud. I have had to pull the center post on the carto out a bit more times than I can count though.
My cartos' are great. Mind you I am using a mini setup.

If the batteries aren't working because you twisted the cartomizers on too much, i have had this problem switching between my old Stardusts and my modified Ego-w Cartomizer (for Medical substances) ... I usually just take a bobby pin or toothpick and put it on the side of the little contact rod on the connection end of the battery, and spin it around raising it up, then when you screw the cartomizer on it makes contact and pushes the rod into a good position to run with it.. I'm not very good at grammar or spelling so quote me if you need some clarification

Unfortunately no (they had them in the store), thats for marking up wafer boards when you build circuits. The OP mentioned a pen like electrical contact cleaner found at RS that I thought would be cool for keeping in a travel case and easier then the long Q-Tips + big bottle of Isopropyl.
Please dont do that, the problem is on the other end. Messing with the battery is a bad idea. I dont have time to go into details. Yes the circuit writer pen - you shake it up really well and put some on a coin (like a penny) - then you use a q-tip.
The reason I want the carts to screw all the way down is so that they cover the air channel flow holes on the sides of my battery...I don't like the hissing noise it makes when the holes (there are two) are partially exposed. I did a second post just a few moments ago - with cartomizer tips and tricks and I have resolved all the issues with my cartomizers and can get back to vaping.

Actually, just to be more specific - I fixed the two original batteries with the Radio Shack circuit writer pen - this pen has many uses and can restore electrical contacts.
I shook the pen really well as per the instructions - then I put some on a penny and used a toothpick (not a Q-tip) then I resurfaced the battery connection by applying the silver liquid directly onto the battery contact where the cartomizer centerpost meets the battery. These two batteries had big depressions in them from screwing on the cartomizers too tight to begin with and they had stopped working. I also used the same process to apply to the threads on these two batteries as well. All I did was resurface them to their original level or slightly higher and now both batteries are working perfectly again. You need to let the liquid dry for about 24 hours (it is a very thick liquid almost like a silver gel) and it is similar to soldering but with no heat. Works great.
