Cartomizers vs Atomizers?

Just getting into vapping after a failed atempt to quit analogs with snus. Ordered a couple 501 starter kits and was browsing around to find a juice supplier I liked when I noticed some thing odd.

Most of the atomizers I've seen priced at $7-$12 yet I keep spotting 5 packs of cartomizers for around the same amount. I thought the cartomizer was just a tip and filler with the atomizer built in. Am I missing some thing or are cartomizers really that much beter of a deal?

I have been vaping for a few months now using an atty and a cart. I just ordered a Vapor King which uses cartomizers, so I don't know much about them other than what I've read.

Depending on the model and the individual atomizer - it can last a few days to several months. I have some five month old atties that still work fine. Cartridges can be washed and reused and the stuffing replaced almost indefinitely. You only toss them when they don't fit tight anymore or have too many teeth marks on them.

Cartomizers are considered disposable. They work very differently than cart + atty combination. There are diagrams somewhere here on ECF that shows the difference. (and tons of cart and atty vs carto threads) They can be refilled a few times, but then you throw the whole thing away. Some people boil them clean to get more use from them. My guess is for a heavy vapor, they would be good for a week at most before they need replaced.

If you are just looking for a dollar to dollar comparison - atties and carts would be cheaper. I have heard cartomizers give a better vaping experience and there is a lot less tinkering involved. So for a better vape and convenience, cartomizers may be worth the price.

With everything else e-cig - it comes down to personal preference. I can't say for sure what my preference is until my new toys show up in the mail later this week.

The newer softcap one piece cartomizers hold more liquid than the standard 2 piece cartridge/atomizer. You might be able to re-fill 13-20 drops into a cartridge, but in a cartomizer you can re-fill 30+ drops so they last longer. I have re-filled cartomizers 20-30 times. It's less hassle. The ones I prefer are:

Blank 510 Mega Cartomizers and these are good as well :
Refillable 510 Cartomizers

On average I find that cartos are lasting me a little less than half as long as atomizers. Considering that the cost of cartos is usually a little less than half the cost of regular attys I guess that it all evens out in that way. I think cartos are a bit more convenient to use but they really don't work at higher voltages. I vape at 6V most of the time so I've decided to save my cartos for driving and other situations where it is a problem to be filling regular cartridges all the time.

I think it's just personal preference. I stocked up on all: carts, atty's and cartomizers. Sometimes I prefer on over the other. Good to have the variety. I find that depending on the time, the juice and what I've been doing more of, I often switch around. I get burnt taste on attys sometimes and sometimes cartomizers get it too. You get duds with each and you get some that last forever.

I would suggest get a few of each and try them out.

Vaping allows you to experiment, which is half the fun.

Good luck.

I love dripping on an atty but I recently took the plunge and got some 510 cartos (madvapes had a pack of 5 for around $10) to try out. Verdict so far? They seem fine to me on the very strong flavor I chose to use with it - no idea how long they last though as Ive only had them a little while. I do still drip as its my preferred method, and I AM finding I have to top up the carto quite often - I certainly havent so far at least found it to be a 'fill it n forget it' device. That COULD be user-error on my part or it COULD be that I vape it so hard n fast that Im getting through juice faster lol.
I can't see me using cartos to the exclusion of dripping though - so I will be buying new atties as and when.

Apparently. I can see where a carto is awesome on a long road trip or just any place where it is inconvenient to keep refilling a cart. For overall use and effect, the atty and cart is hard to replace.
I got a bunch of KR808D-1 cartomizers to try out.

I made a big mistake in taking them (exclusively) on a road trip to Vegas.
I was so unhappy with the performance that I don't use them at all anymore.

Some day I may sell them off or something.
But that doesn't mean that I won't look into better cartomizers some day.

Anyway, it is really impossible for a cartomizer, or ANYTHING will filler material, to equal dripping.
And when I say impossible, I mean that literally.

You can drip with cartomizers pretty easily. There is a coil in the middle, it's vertical and not horizontal in the ones I use.

Thanks for the tip.... I just popped off the plastic mouth cap and inserted a Super T drip tip and the cartomiser vapes much better with less chance of liquid in the mouth when I over fill or over inhale. Using it on a pass thru now.

Here and back
Biggest reason I switched to cartomizer is no burning thread taste. Those little fibers out of the carts are really realll nasty when they melt on the atomizer.

You need to try this, I did and the atty is lasting forever and tastes great.

YouTube - How to remove your Wick

But back to the atty/cart question. Both are good, my cartomizers have lasted for a very long time, I can refill dozens of times and I clean once a week. I've bought for as little as $1 each vs $7+ for attys.
