What keeps it from being exposed to the atmosphere Quigs?

The first time I squonk/vape on a brass/copper pin I've made (after it's initial peroxide/vinegar bath) the inside of the bore is coated with juice as is the surface of the pin inside the rda...of the dozen + rda's I've got running brass/copper pins I've never had any discoloring or signs of ewwy stuff growing...and my maint. of some of my RDA's can leave a lot to be desired.

Just my :2c: but I really think the "It must be SS or you will die..." is 2% "possible" and 98% voodoo...it's a perspective thing, seeing as I've got 35 yrs of analogues under my belt I'm pretty sure dying of lead or verdigris poisoning is waaaay down the list of things I need concern myself with :D

No, just gaudy and overpriced. I do think the center bar through the bottle adds tremendously to the gaudy look though. Just my opinion... I don't care for having to use a wrench to change out the battery or to refill the bottle either. Seems like a waste of time. Again, just my opinion.... I had never intended to purchase one, was only inquiring so that maybe someone else had an option, if it presented itself. I had seen a post somewhere that someone didn't care for the look of it and didn't understand why it was there. I think it was from his original post when he built the first one and posted it in the modder's section of the forum. My belief is its there because he wants it there and that is it. There are several devices that have the face of the bottle open and they squonk just fine, but for some reason, his doesn't... This is in no way intended to be a slam or anything against Tbev but whatever works for him, and if he can find people to sell them to it's all the better, for him...just not for me...

I appreciate your answer and respect your opinion, my question was one of curiosity since you had inquired about the modification to the MOD in question, thanks.

Question - what kind of screws does the Derringer used, and CH do you have a recommended place to buy extras? I'd like to get a bunch of extra screws to have on hand for when they are ready.

I have no idea what size the Derringer uses, but, if they happen to be M2's or M2.5's, I have a bunch of knurled ones that I don't need, you may have them.
I needed new screws for my Zenith, but I couldn't figure out what size it took. Turns out I needed M3's!

Guess I'll go with 800-1000 grit.

I'm not an expert by any means, not even sure I know what I'm talking about but for what its worth, when i have to grind down screw heads for a gdna, I had to use 60 grit and thats with a drill. This is for ss. I imagine you could use a higher grit for copper or brass.

Let us know how it turns out. I'm thinking of doing the same thing for my rogue caps

Chowderhead1972,

Just wanted to stop in and say the screws you sent for the Marquis did the trick. It's like night and day. Now it's one of the easiest vertical dual build to build that I've ever built. Between the screws and the top cap fix you posted this atty is now one of my favorites. More so even than my Veritas.

So thank you again for turning an atty that I wasn't crazy about into a winner.... yet again.

later,
Ken

Personally I would go 600 wet on a very flat, hard, and smooth surface. Don't fold the paper just lay it flat on a counter top or very smooth cutting board and draw figure "8"s to keep your cut square and straight. Rinse the paper frequently. Youtube fiber optic polishing for a video of the technique.

Looks good; I'm gonna need one of those buttons asap. The Marquis is my daily driver I have 3 in use. The only downside is they are power hungry; above .4 ohms, don't bother.

Now do you see why I held the drains up higher than usual? Soaked wicks at all times.

I just heard back from Avid, seems like I have gotten some traction towards doing an authentic run of Marquis. They sent me a phone number to discuss. My batting average once on the phone is 100% for getting us cool stuff. Hobo? Yup... Derringer? It was a fight at first but yup. The Marquis should be a cake walk compared to Derringer. With the Derringer I was virtually unknown and begging to work on the first run. It's alot to ask of a maker that has poured his heart into every aspect of an atty to know it will be taken apart and re-configured before it has even seen daylight. I think I have done Hoberto(HOBO) and Brett(PRAXIS) proud on both.

Where do you get those buttons?

Fred's Creative Customs on Facebook, but he ran into a couple of off-line personal problems (including problems with his lathe) and temporarily closed down his business. So as of right now you can't get them, but he said he was planning on starting it back up real soon. Hopefully by this summer. He's the same guy that does the bullet casing Reo buttons.

Thank you for the very kind offer! According to CH they are 4-40 x 1/8 allen grubs; not sure if they're the same thing or not. I'm gonna head over to google.
