phibbus....when you get a chance to stick another coil in there your flavor should be on par.
So CH offered to swap out the deck on the gold Cyclone I had reserved with that of the last of the finished SS 2013's he had left in stock so as to ship on Monday. It arrived today, and I'm happier than a man ought to be on account small chunk of metal. Thanks Tom!
First thing I noticed after pulling off that ever-so-shiny cap was that I couldn't see the juice holes in the center post. Tom actually has them just about all the way down below the level of the deck on this one, and I had to use a magnifying glass to be able to spot spot their top edges. I was a bit worried whether or not it would actually sqwonk, so I yanked my RM2 and popped it on to check before even coiling. juice came out around the post amply and disappeared again leaving the dish dry as a bone like magic. Awesome workmanship.
I'm buried in work this week, so I only had time to do a quick single coil—same 7-wrap 28ga kanthal @ .9ohms I've been using in the RM2. The atty was sitting about 1/16" proud on the Reo Mini, and once I saw how great it looked otherwise, I did decide to force the pin in my connector to get it flush (the RM2 may not be entirely happy about that, but we'll see.) Airflow range is wider than I was expecting, and I got about as massive a lungful as one can expect from that coil on the first hit with both holes inadvertently full open. With the 1mm hole, draw is tighter than the RM2 default, and just slightly too tight for me. The holes can be closed completely.
I'd have to say flavor is just a hair shy of the RM2 (as might be expected from the slightly bigger chamber,) but the adjustability is more than a fair tradeoff. I did make the mistake of loading up an unfamiliar juice I was eager to try, though (Alien Visions' new Gryphon Breath, which arrived along with the atty) so I don't actually have a prior frame of reference with the flavor.
The only slight flaw I'd found with the RM2 is that I swear I can taste a hint of brass with it. I don't know if it was coming from the pin, the air hole, the bare spots on the posts where the chroming hadn't taken, or my imagination. I can't taste it with the Cyclone, though.
I also can't recommend the CH version enough. Functional workmanship is fantastic as already noted, and the price he's now offering is way more than fair, IMHO. I'll try to get a chance to get some pics up this weekend.
and I'm sure you are
