CDC complains that some states haven’t banned e-cig sales to minors (but fails to acknowledge that some CDC funded State health agencies and CDC’s Big Pharma funded allies CTFK, ACS, AHA, ALA have lobbied against those laws), complains that just 3 states have banned vaping in workplaces (but fails to reveal that vaping bans protect cigarettes and there is no public health justification for banning vaping)

" Therefore, when addressing potential public health harms associated with ENDS, it is important to simultaneously uphold and accelerate strategies found by the Surgeon General to prevent and reduce combustible tobacco use, including tobacco price increases, comprehensive smoke-free laws, high-impact media campaigns, barrier-free cessation treatment and services, and comprehensive statewide tobacco control programs"

So, they are urging states to increase taxes on tobacco products now, so when the FDA redeeming takes place, it will cost people even more money if they go back to smoking. Greed is ugly business.

Barrier-free cessation treatment? What the heck does that mean? It's sure not "barrier-free" at the prices they charge for that crap! I mean, there were a few times in the past when I thought seriously about giving the patch yet another go... but at $40? When a pk of smokes was like $5? Are they totally insane, or do they think EVERYONE is Mr or Ms GotRocks?

I figured out THEN that they didn't REALLY want anyone to quit smoking, or they'd give that stuff away for free.

The CDC drives me insane, especially the "Disease" and "Control" parts. Since they cannot actually identify any "Disease" that needs to be "Control"led related to electronic cigarettes their constant yammering on this topic only serves to negate the very point of the agency's existence.

Any budget cuts coming down the pike from the Republicans?

CDC considers "barrier-free cessation treatment" giving free Big Pharma products to all tobacco users, and giving free cessation counseling services to all tobacco users who have healthcare insurance.

But "barrier-free cessation treatment" actually means forcing taxpayers and all healthcare insurers (who pass the costs along to all policy holders) to pay for (i.e. subsidize) all of the costs of Big Pharma tobacco treatment drugs and all costs of providing smoking cessation counseling to any and all tobacco users

Please note that Tim McAfee (before going to CDC) used to run Free & Clear (which contracts with lots of states to promote Big Pharma products and cessation counseling to everyone who calls 1-800-QUITNOW smoking cessation quit-line).

And before going back to FDA, Mitch Zeller worked (from 2002-2013) as a lobbyist for GSK to promote GSK's NRT products while trying to destroy smokeless tobacco and e-cigs (because they are more effective and enjoyable competitors of NRT).

Zeller, ALA, McAfee and many other ANTZ wrote and/or lobbied for the provision in ObamaCare requiring all healthcare insurers to pay for FDA approved cessation drugs and cessation counseling services (during which the doctor/nurse/counselor is paid to falsely tell the tobacco user that Big Pharma products are the only effective way to quit smoking).

They also lobbied to require Medicaid and Medicare to pay for FDA approved cessation drugs and counseling services, as well as lobbying state health departments and legislators to spend MSA funds, tobacco tax revenue and/or other government funds on FDA approved drugs.

For example, the NY State Health Dept bought tens of millions of dollars of NRT products, and gave them away free to anyone who called the Health Depts quit smoking phone number. Then, the NY Health Dept issued press releases congratulating themselves by claiming their NRT giveaway helped hundreds of thousands of smokers quit (who actually quit because taxes went sky high and smoking was banned in workplaces).
