CDC"s obsessive shaming of smokers results in collateral damage:

The youtube comments are extremely uncomplimentary. One example:
"A message to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention... Hi, I'm Katherine, I am NOT a smoker, I have never been a smoker, but I DO have an ostomy, an ileostomy, to be exact. I have no large intestine/colon, I wear a "bag" (we in the ostomy world prefer the word "pouch"). Though I understand your desire to educate the public concerning the horrendous health issues that smoking can cause, using an ostomy as a scare tactic is over the line. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand that smoking can and will cause a whole host of health problems, but using the "shame" of an ostomy is uncalled for. Addressing your commercial, first, let me make it clear, I am about as far from "squeamish" as you can get when it comes to caring for my ostomy. Second, I am not "confined" to my home for months on end (folks, that's a little tidbit Julia speaks of in a follow-up commercial). Third, I am not "ashamed" (yeppers, another follow-up video) of my ostomy, I wear it proudly! For the love of God, and all my fellow ostomates, we did not all have our colons ripped from us because we smoked, we are not all "squeamish" saps who sit around the house, months on end playing the "woe is me" game and we are NOT happy about your flippant way of trying to scare a smoker into ending that gripping habit or they may, oh my hell, have the dreaded, shameful colostomy/ileostomy/urostomy bag! Suck it up, CDC, you stepped over the line with the commercial. Though your intentions might have been good, and my thoughts are with Julia and her battle, having an ostomy is NOT, I repeat least you don't get it, having an ostomy IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!"
