CE2 coil

I'm using CE2's in a MAP tank and noticed area around coil has a bunch of crud on it. How brittle are the coils? Are they as fragile as a filiment or can I take a stiff bristle to them, like a solder brush?

I've never used a brush. - Hot water or an alcohol rinse and dry burns usually take care of that sort of thing for me.

Dry burns are your best friend. I only use an alcohol bath if a simple rinse and dry burn doesn't work.

If you use a brush you'll be surprised that it doesn't do much help. The material is bonded quite well to the wick, and the best method is to burn it off. I've tried to use a sewing needle to pick off some crud, but it doesn't work so swell.

The coil can take quite a beating from dry burning and I haven't had a coil break on me yet so don't be afraid of the coil breaking that way.

+1 on dry burning these, they can take it in most every case. Occasionally I blow one out but not often; most can withstand multiple dry burns. The wicks usually end up dissolving before the coil goes.
