A Cave In Stirling, Scotland.
So I've been vaping for a couple of weeks now and had the hankering for a mod.

This is my first mod which took far less time than I thought, cost is about £0.60 for two 10ml syringes (centered not eccentric) which can be got from many places on eBay and the cost of the Royal Smokers CE2r4 XL cart/clearomizer - I used a clearomizer since this is what I had. You need a complete syringe and the rubber seal from the second syringe - although I think I may be able to find rubber gaskets in plumbing retailers instead of using the second syringe seal.

I give idea credit to Minus1724 maker of The Minus Tank for inspiration and impatience at having to wait for his tank to hit my supplier.

The Supplies
Needed.jpg

For tools I used a craft knife with a really sharp blade and a dremel style tool with a flat grinding tip and a cone grinding tip the approximate diameter of a CE2r4.

Take the syringes apart and pull the seals off the plungers, the plungers are not needed but keep the seals to one side.
Next cut the bottom off the syringe with the knife (a pipe cutter could be used) leaving a completely open tube and cut the top end of the syringe to length, I used the 8.5ml mark as a guide for this.
You then use the flat grinder to level off the ends and clean off any loose material.

Next attach the cone grinder to the dremel and get the seals.
Place the grinder tip into the hole where the seal attached to the plunger and start grinding at low speed ensuring you keep it central.
This bit can be tricky as if you hold the seal too tight you will end up with an oval hole which is useless.
Keep grinding until you punch a hole all the way through the seal.
Do the same for the other seal but after you get a hole, slightly enlarge the hole (the reason will be clear later).

Now clean the syringe tube and seals thoroughly to remove any debris, I cleaned them off in IPA and let them dry.

Next you take apart your CE2r4 XL, achieve this by removing the rubber cap then while attached to a battery carefully wiggle the tube holding the top to slowly loosen the tube.
Once the tube is off keep it and make sure you get hold of the little silicon cover for the atomizer cup.
CE2r4.jpg

Next take the tube from the CE2r4 and cut it to the length you require, I made just over an inch long, this will be the tube that is a mouthpiece.
I used a clearomizer so had a lovely thin plastic to cut, you will need a pipe cutter or saw to cut a metal tube to size, alternatively I find a 2ml syringe is the right diameter to make a tube from.
You now need to insert the cut CE2r4 tube into the seal which you made a bigger hole in, make sure you have the tube flush with sticking 2-3mm out from the curved side of the seal.
Be careful and take it easy so you don't damage the tube or seal.
TubeSeal.jpg

Now insert the CE2r4 into the seal with the smaller hole, again take it easy you don't want to break anything and ensure you have the threads on the atomizer flush with the flat side of the seal. I find it easier to put the atomizer in from the curved side.

Next take the seal with the tube in it and gently insert it into the 10ml syringe tube.

Then carefully insert the CE2r4 and it's seal into the other end of the syringe tube, ensure you have the atomizer cup inside the narrow tube at the other end.

Now carefully insert the silicon atomizer cap down the top tube to cover the atomizer just like the original CE2r4 position, make sure you have the slits lined up with the wicks.

So now you have your own sealed tank ! To complete you can put the rubber cap back on the tube or use a drip tip.
I fill it with a long 20 gauge needle on a syringe pushed through the filler holes in the silicon atomizer cap.
I can get about 4 to 4.5 ml into this tank and you know when you've filled too far as the excess will pour from the battery connector hole as with any over fill.
Other than over filling it shouldn't leak, unless you ground the holes in the seals too big.

Here is my setup attached to a Riva XL battery and a tapered drip tip.

I am quite proud of my first mod and plan to make quite a few as it doesn't take very long and is very cheap to do as long as you have the tools and the time. Wicking is much improved from this set up and I get less problems with the atomizer being too dry between inhalations since I am quite a heavy vaper.

Hopefully others can enjoy this mod too !

Don't know the brand, as for the markings they were just black paint which mostly came off with the IPA wash.
The syringes themselves were from a generic inkjet refilling kit I had lying around but you can buy them on ebay usually in packs of four - just have to be 10ml or more with centered nozzles for this mod.
I hope to find bigger syringes at some point with centered nozzles so I ca make a tank with even more capacity.

thanks, I found some on ebay and ordered them. Before I saw your post, I was going to try this on my own and thought about ordering these 12ml transfer syringe But I think the 10ml will be plenty big and are cheaper at around $4 US for 6 with free shipping

nice mod! I think though that a larger capacity might not work as well as you may think? I own a MAP tank and find that performance decreases significantly if I dont clean the coils after 2 fills at the MOST (1 tank on some dark liquids), which would be approximately 8-10 mls. So to have say, a 15ml or larger tank system, you might not be able to vape it all before you may feel the need to clean and dry burn it, and I personally dont want to mess with spare juice that I would have to empty out of the tank, find a place for, then put back in afterwards, or even worse, throw it down the drain.

Nice job on the affordable mod tho!

@Sassyonemeis,
I agree that bigger is not always better but just because it holds 15 ml doesn't mean that one has to fill it to the top everyday. My tank holds 5 ml and I only add 3 each morning. The menthol flavor seems to go into hiding if I try to vape a tank for 2 or 3 days but a fresh fill that lasts all day works great.

Thanks Sassyonemeis and Gummy Bear for the warning, I am a new vaper and still have to find limits of performance for mods and usage.
I will probably just stick to making a few of these I intend to use the atomizers with one flavour (still with regular cleaning) until they burn out.
This means I can mark the tanks with what flavour is in them and save cross mixing stronger flavours.

If you can take the tube off and on easily and have a small pocket torch (butane) to clean the wick and coil with they will last for months. I don't clean them I just use them for about a month and toss them out. when the juice starts turning brown I know I have about a week to mod a new one and at 10 bucks for 5 c2s (and if you toss out 2 of the 5 right out the box because of that funky taste then a pack will last 3 months. That's only about 40 bucks a year to not have to clean them.

My preferred cleaning method is hot water rinse and a quick soak in IPA and leave them for a day - flavour seems just as crisp as a new atomizer to me but then I have not been doing this for long and have yet to lose any equipment through failure apart from a faulty pass through with arrived faulty. All the CE2r4's I've tried have been fine with no issues at all, guess I'm just lucky.

I've found that it's unneccessary to remove the tube from the carto completely, but rather, cut slits in the tube above the connector and below the cup with a Dremel cut-of wheel. This enables the juice to get into the wick and adds stability/rigidity. I've also determined this is less likely to damage the atty from the cup sliding down the air tube. It does make it necessary to cut the syringe (or other tank apparatus) to the exact length needed to use the drip tip, tho.

Thanks for the how-to! I may try this for my next tank mod to see if it's more user-maintainable than the clear bottle mods I have.

Right, so what's the point of making a 15ml tank mod if you're not going to use it?? I have a MAP tank and only add 3.5-4mls because that is all I go thru in a day. I clean my MAP daily and do a dry burn because that is how I keep it working perfectly FOR ME. I find after 1 tank the performance is diminished and well it's not so much fun getting thru that second tank because the coil is all gunked up, moreso with darker liquids than light ones. So to me, it makes more sense to maybe make 3 mods @ 5mls each and have ready access to a fresh clean tank when you need one :)

I have 2 MAP's so that I always have 1 going while the other is being maintained. Just my opinion tho. I love a freshly cleaned and dry burned CE2 MAP tank... sighsssssss... yep.. MAP tank love... :vapor:
