does anyone know the trick to getting the wire through the ceramic cup? it seems there is some silicone or something blocking the holes.

And yeah, on the one I took apart, I see what you're talking about. Almost as if once it was assembled, they dabbed something to keep it all in place. Just use a good sharp needle to open it up. Just a quick poke from the top or bottom seems to work. You ran a great CoOp, so you don't owe me anything for the blood from when my push pin slipped and poked my finger. :p

hawkeye, michaels has some 28 g silver coated wire that will work. 32 g no resistance wire has proven difficult to find. I wondered about the difference in gauge, but i ran into someone else who was using the 28 g from michaels. I'm sure i'll poke myself too once i get to rebuilding these buggers, then we'll be even ;)

I had almost forgotten about this thread. :p I still haven't rebuilt one. Been too busy buying from other CoOps. :) I have two DiDAlikes now, and 5 more Phoenix RBAs. Need to work on my SS wick skills. :)

ok so i've attempted my first rebuild/rewick of these things...the 32 g kanthal seems to be quite a bit larger than the stock coil. I built 2.0 and 2.4 ohm coils. any idea on what the stock wire size/material are on these things? the kanthal doesn't seem as responsive as the stock coil at the same ohms (i.e., takes a second to get going). The 2.0 fires up better, but there is almost no vape, and what vape there is burns the crap out of my throat. Is it possible i have the wick wound too tight? i should also note the coils are anything but pretty. I rebuilt these without the NR wire, and ran both ends down to the bottom (like from the factory) separating the two with the rubber grommet. there is definitely NR wire soldered to either end of the stock coil, so i am going to try adding some NR with the current setup. it seems like more wraps on the wick=more surface area to vape. I'd like to try some smaller diameter wire (to recreate the stock coil) however the smaller diameter wire is higher resistance (and i'd like to end up with a ~2.2-2.4 ohm coil)... any ideas?
