While watching an episode of "workaholics" the CDC ran a commercial for their website CDC.gov/tips. The purpose of the site is to let you read tips from people who have quit smoking. I plan to write a letter to the CDC explaining my success with electronic cigarettes. I'm wondering if anyone has input as to where the CDC stands. Their e-mail address is Tobaccoinfo@cdc.gov. For those of us so inclined, we should consider inundating them with our testimonials. Thanks in advance. All input is welcome.

Lahme is right.

But the "I JUST GOT A PROVARI" threads with people wanting congratulations and/or justifications/rationalizations/reassurances of their purchase get 10 pages of posts.

Anyways.

Good luck, OP, if the CDC is buddy buddy with the FDA. A cursory search of their site results in broken link and a few obscure mentions that are several years old.

The CDC is actively working to help the FDA eliminate electronic cigarettes.
There is no way on earth they will publish your letter or let the public hear your story.

But I still suggest you try, and sincerely hope you prove me wrong.
If nothing else, you can hold on to the letter and use it again down the road when it comes time to lobby legislators.

If people want to fight fire with fire why not just take up a collection for your own commercial to air. If you get enough people to donate a few bucks and run commercials talking about any positives that research on ecigs have found, the minimal success rate of NRTs, the dangers of Chantix, and of course the dangers of smoking. Then touch base on the deeming regualtions the FDA want to pursue and call them out on it on national TV on why they would want to put high taxes or make it illegal to obtain something that may work with little to no proof of anything negatve to back them up. Make a website where people can go and type testimonials about how ecigs have helped them quit and plug that in the commercial as well. Also why not put ECF or other sites in the commercial(with their okay of course) and say to find out more information on how to make the change go there. Just spit balling ideas but in today's day and age you do not fight the government on their turf you fight them in the public eye because all they care about is money and getting re-elected. So if you can't take their money away then you need to make them scared of losing votes by calling them out in the public eye on things that they cannot back up without admitting to being bought and paid for.

Just thinking out loud I guess. My rant is over.

A fine idea. One problem. There are no elections for the FDA or the CDC. They are filled with career bureaucrats, so they don't give a fig what you think at the ballot box. Now public opinion can have some effect, so the idea is not lost. I just wanted to clarify that the unelected slugs in those organization get our money no matter how we vote....

Okay for some reason I thought it ultimately would have to go through the house and congress.

The only reason this hasn't been done is because it costs way too much money.

A few years ago I looked into what an advertistement in the USA today would cost...
And we don't have anywhere near that much money either.

Well, the House and Senate should be providing oversight and having hearings, letting these agencies know what they think, and making budget decisions based on how well they do their jobs. Instead, they have been increasing funding for these agencies every year automatically since the Congress almost never "does budgets" any more.

Why should they? It is not like its their job or something....oh wait, that is their job....<SUPPRESS ADHD AND OCD FUELED RANT>

You know, we had a real rough snowstorm here in Richmond, VA yesterday, but the sun came out today and it was really pretty. A nice contrast!
