Chain vaping more effectively - Suggestions? I'm all Googled out.

Hi everyone. I've always been hesitant to request help online because it makes me feel lazy. I've been lurking among the forums since last summer, and after hitting so many dead ends on two current questions, it's time to make my first two posts- starting here.

I bought a starter kit from V2 cigs in September 2013 and quit smoking almost immediately. To my surprise, I loved vaping even more than my 15 year cig habit. I love it so much that I became a chain vaper. I want to continue my chain-vaping habit, but something in my set-up needs to be changed. I always keep my clearos at least 50% full, but after 2-3 light hits, the juice starts tasting different- not burnt, but I imagine it is due to heat since I can feel warmth at the base of the clearomizer. If I let it sit for a few minutes, the flavor goes back to normal. Because of this, I've taken to using three PVs at once, alternating after each hit. It's ridiculous. And still not 100% effective.

I don't have a ton of money to throw around experimenting, and I don't have the time (yet!) to learn every mechanism involved in building my own device. I would simply like to hear suggestions on what kind of system might work best for chain-vaping. I'd like to do this as simply and inexpensively as possible (while maintaining quality), ideally retaining my current batteries. This is probably too much to ask, but ask I must.

Would it be possible that simply changing to a larger clearomizer with longer wick would solve the problem? Kangertech e-Smart clearomizer was something I planned to try.

MY STUFF:
I have three (long) batteries from V2 cigs ( KR808d-1 ) and use their newest EX Blanks clearomizers. I have used cartridges from V2 and juice from V2, Azure Vapors, and ECBlend in mixes ranging from PG/VG 80/20, 50/50, and Reduced VG, all at 24mg nic. Currently using 80/20 and 50/50 from ECBlend (excellent, btw, I must say. Their 50/50 Thin Mint Cookies is what I've been looking for all my life [used to smoke Marlboro Smooth]).

The biggest problem I can see you having are those KR808 thread batteries. Most of the good stuff is 510 threaded. I have three 808 thread batteries that I sometimes use as spares in conjunction with a 808 to 510 adapter. They only work with some of my tops, but in a pinch they do OK.

I was afraid the batteries were going to be an issue Well the problem needs to be solved one way or another. So if it's for the greater good, I'll break down and buy a couple of 510s. If I do, any suggestions for a clearomizer that would be good for my situation? Thanks!

I'm by far an expert but somewhat of a chain vaper. whenever mine starts tasting funky i pull a bit of the wick out and clean it / dry it good. Tends to work most of the time and extends the life of the wick. Using a protank with an Ego-C vv battery.

what is it about vaping that makes you want to chain vape? The flavor, the nic ? Other than getting an 18XXX battery sized tube and a rebuildable tank... try to get an idea as to why you have to use 3 setups in a row. If it is the flavor you are after, consider getting a juice that can be bought with extra flavor.. if its the nic you are chasing after, consider going up another step in nic. Also, 510 threaded devices offer more options to find the best vape for yourself...

I've had similar observations. Like you, I am loving sucking into my mouth a nice dosage of nicotine via e-cig vaping, but have noticed similar issues when I attempt to take multiple hits. I had no idea how much I would enjoy this, yet in my experience not quite as much of a nasty trap as cigarettes. I am actually able to not vape in the late afternoon and evening hours, or when I first wake up, the desire for satisfaction generally hits about one hour after having breakfast and being on my way for the morning. Like you, I experience a very compelling desire to chain vape for several minutes, and chain vape at least two or three other times during the day.

Something worth noting: I am really enjoying that when I suck in the vapor and exhale, a lot of it seems to naturally exhale via my nose, which helps reinforce a wonderful sense of contentment and satisfaction hit. But you're right about the tendency for a "burnt" quality after the third vaping inhale.

I see issues developing for you if you're a heavy chain vaper and using clearomizers. Getting a larger capacity clearomizer is not going to change a thing. If you look inside a clearomizer's coil head, they all use the same size wick and coil. This is a problem for a heavy vaper. Those smallish string wicks can't keep up with your vaping style.

I see two possible solutions, but they won't be inexpensive. You'll need at least an eGo size battery, if not an advanced personal vaporizer.

Cartotanks:

Use an entirely different wicking system. Cartomizers are steel tubes completely filled with wick material. This totally surrounds the heating coil, allowing for better wicking, flavor, and consistancy. The cartomizers must have holes in them to allow the juice from the tank to replace what is vaporized. Easily refilled. Cartos are replaced every 2 - 3 weeks just like the coil heads in clearomizers.



Bottom Feeding Box Mod:

A mechanical mod which houses both a juice tank and battery. The mod body has a window which allows the user to squeeze or "squonk" the bottle to feed juice up into a drip atomizer. Drip atomizers use no wicking material, just have a heating coil. So, you get the full flavor of the juice with the convenience of a tank.

Yeah, you found the limits of the 808 style, I'd agree. I didn't care for V2's clearo myself, had nearly identical issues with it. I found the Phoenix bottom coil 808 clearo's a little better, but everything V2 related I tried was not up to par for me.

A good pair of variable voltage 510/eGo sticks will open your options and improve your vaping experience significantly, from my perspective. Something from Joyetech, Smoktech, Kanger or others will do you well. If you want longer battery life and can handle a slightly larger setup, a mod from a reputable manufacturer will get you there, too. As for clearos, there's a lot of options out there once you get into the 510 or eGo threading. I don't have problems with my Kanger Mini-Protanks or eVods, though. There's bigger tanks out there, but I don't find it inconvenient to refill and often times like having a smaller tank, anyway. Sometimes I'll find myself vaping for quite awhile, usually noticing when I've bottomed out the tank, but I don't have wicking problems. Especially since I started rebuilding my own coils, which I found I can do better than stock for a fraction of the price.

This setup would be around a $60-$75 buy in, give or take. If you get into rebuilding, you'll save that over your current atomizers in a few months.

If you decide on something a little bigger than your V2 setup, I would recommend this starter kit. I got it and like it very much. I'm new too and I had the same issue! To me it tasted like metal, the flavor was AWFUL! I don't 'chain vape', but I vape like I'd smoke an analog, a lot for about 5-10 mins and put it down for a while. I 'primed' my Protank 2 mini's every time, would take it apart to add juice directly onto the wick/coil and still, after a couple hits, would get that nasty metal taste. I use ego Twist batteries and LOVE the VV, having options is ALWAYS a plus, but the more I used it and the higher the volts, the worse the taste. I switched to Carto Tanks and LOVE them! I was LITERALLY one more day of metal taste away from quitting and picking my analogs back up! I think the Carto Tanks are life changing, for myself anyway! It's still not PERFECT, there are times (at higher volts.. over 4.4) where I can still taste a dry-ish type taste, but it is NO WHERE near the flavor I was tasting before.

I second the suggestion for cartotanks or bottom fed RDAs. I often chain vape too, and when I did that with clearos I'd get the same effects as you. I never get that with cartotanks, or with my bottom feeder Reo! Incidentally, the first setup I bought was from V2, then I quickly moved onto Halo Triton - which I still carry in my purse. But for home, now, I generally use something with a bigger battery and cartotanks or the Reo.

I agree with this, BUT I don't think it would be expensive at all! Get an ego battery (shop around, but be aware there are a lot of knock off's out there), they really don't really cost more then the V2 batteries (I have a V2 kit as well and know the battery prices). I got my VV ego Twist for $25 each, again, it's nice to be able to adjust the volts based on the juice or just your mood at the moment! I just ordered 2 Carto Tanks, right now I have the plastic ones, but I wanted Smok Tech's Pyrex glass ones so I found them here

I do want to add one more thing.... I also ordered SINGLE coil cartos to go in my tank because I heard that they're 1) better for your battery 2) better for the lower voltage batteries and I am only assuming that if there's only 1 coil heating up, there's less chance of the burning taste, but that is a theory I haven't yet tested. I should have those cartos (3ohm 3 hole single coil) in a couple of days and I can let you know how that goes if you'd like.

Edit: I DID try the evod tank, I have 2 of those and 2 of the Protank 2 mini tanks. I tried rebuilding my coils as well with cotton and although it was a little better then the silica they come with, I would still get the dry hits after a few puffs and a battery puddled with juice! I would never tell anyone what to do, my opinion is only from MY experience, but the carto tank is the only thing that has worked for me.

Personally I would suggest for a simple cheap option getting a larger batter, variable volt, with a trophy tank or similar bottom coil. You can remove the rubber gasket from the stem, trim the edge, and replace it which will.eliminate your dry hits

I usually use IB Tanks, but I recently bought a bunch of these because they're so cheap (not as pretty as IB Tanks, but seem to work very well with no leaks) - these are the Smok Tech slim pyrex at 8.99 (they come with a carto). You can get cartos with different bottom threading to work on whatever you're using as a battery, but these are 510:

I'm glad I came across this thread. I experience the same issues when vaping. I don't chain vape per say but when i do pick up my pv I hit it pretty frequently for 10 minutes or so then put it down for a little. I seem to be going trough coil heads really quickly and I just ordered some 510 atomizers because I'd like to try dripping when I'm at home but on the go I still need a better alternative to clearos. I've tried the ismoka mini bcc, iclear 16s, the C5 bdc from aspire and now an aspire nautilus. I was really disappointed in the wicking ability of the iclear 16s and I haven't had the greatest experience so far with the nautilus despite some peoples rave reviews of it. I am getting really aggrivated and so far not having a good vaping experience which is making not picking up the analogs difficult.
