TLDR, skip this one.

My very first e-cig was a 1000 mah Joyetech passthrough with a CE3-style Stardust clearo. It was enough to get me off of real cigarettes. But shortly around the 2 week period, something happened. I woke up one morning, reached over for my morning vape, and tasted something awful. A foul burnt taste. I hit it again. And again. Back then you couldn't get into the wicks, so I went to the one and only person I knew, my mentor of sorts -- although he was only a few months further into the game than I. I asked him what was up, and he said, "Your atomizer's burnt out". I had no idea what that meant. He also told me I had lost my o-ring, which I had completely forgotten about when he first warned me. He fished through his tool chest and pulled out a DCT tank. He said, "I got this, but it sucks, it leaks." Neither of us knew what a DCT was, and he kept trying to fill it up like a clearo. Everything leaked HORRIBLY, and juice went everywhere. "These things suck, man!"

This was a year ago...

He had a dripping atomizer at the time, a 1.5 lo-res Joyetech 510, and he showed me how to drip. For five solid months I dripped, until I almost (almost) caused a car accident. Then I stormed into my B&M, ...... off. I told them I was sick of clearos and I was sick of dripping and I hate cartos (I was using them wrong...). The owners and employees were all using carto tanks. I looked at them and said, "Those things suck!"

The owner looked at me and said, dead straight, "You're doing it wrong." And even though it was dead straight, I got the vibe. He knew I was ready. He was being all Pei-Mei on me. That day, when I finally learned how to properly prime and fill a carto tank, it was like a shaft of heavenly light beamed down upon me and the Hallelujah chorus played.

AAAANYWAY, fast forward to April 2013. I work at that very same vape store.

I've used all of our products, but I kinda skimped over the clearos. But then, here in the past week, I really decided to give them the old college try. I slapped an iClear 16 on a 3.7 p/t, and the iClear 30 on the Vamo.

I like them. I really, really do. I can see how a little accident can decimate these things physically, especially the 16, but in all honestly, they're actually REALLY good clearos. I think noobs coming into vaping at this stage are the luckiest... Clearos were NEVER this good when I first started doing this a year ago.

I'm actually quite impressed. I'd never use them as my all day, go-to, permanent delivery device, but I'm satisfied in knowing I can have a super cheap back up just in case...

I got a CE4 with my first Ego, a 650 Mah passthrough. Really wanted to like the CE4, but it had a very hard draw, leaked and was cracked.

Tried Boge cartos, a T2, Vamo and another CE4, once again the CE4 leaked and had a hard draw. The cartos, Vamo, and T2 worked great, tried a SmokTech 3ml dual coil carto tank, awesome. I now have a wide variety of stuff that seems to run from good to even better, out of everything I have tried the CE4's were the only thing I could not get to work right.

Thanks guys. You've help a lot in making my decision. I'm taking the 5 i16s over the 2 i30s.

They perform very well for being "stardust"-type clearos. However, they do break very easily, so be careful with them. The mouth piece and the base seem to be their weak spots.

And yes, to jefsview, I am indeed referring to iClear 16's and 30's.

I'm like you, I tried my hand on cartos when I first started, never could get them working right, even after watching it seems like 10,000 vids on you tube. But one day I finally got it but didn't care for them at all. I finally wound up using VivaNovas all the time, till I found out about bottom coils. So now, I have novas that haven't been touched in months, 3 different types of bcc that I rotate thru. My latest new find is a bottom fed device using atomizers. What a difference it makes. And after reading your post Rocketpunk,it dawned on me how much has changed in just a year that I've been vaping. Going from the skinny e-cig to e-gos to tube mods to box mods. It has been interesting, entertaining and at times frustrating. But all in all, a nice walk along my journey leaving the stinkies behind.

Hi Rocketpunk,

That's funny because now that I retired and can give a carto-tank a honest try - I'm also impressed with them. I spent $111 in April at IBTANKED and I'm glad I did - only started using it a week ago, but it works well, sturdier than I thought it would be and looks good on my ProVari.
Good luck :)

of digging multiple delivery devices! Glad that I spotted your tale while looking around to set up a couple new vapers (who aren't about to pop for the REO that gave me that heavenly shaft of light moment), Rocketpunk. Not TLDR-ish at all, my butterscotch-loving bud. :toast: to variety and to your one-year forum anniversary!

I'll probably never try them, But I like that newcomers have that option. I felt really bad last year for the newcomers trying to figure out the worst of the clearos. Some probably tried them w/o even knowing about cartos and gave up vaping altogether.

I was really getting upset at some of these supplier's that made like they were a gift from heaven, knowing quite well the QC and usability factors.

Gonna sell junk with no warranty, sell it really cheap then!

    Hey, my first Rant :)
