I'm having an issue with my mod batteries, and charging. Using a Nitecore D2 Charger, with IMR 18650 3000maH batteries. The batteries are just below 1/2, and I threw them on to charge as I will be out most the day( normally I wait till I have a low battery indication, or close). When they are in the charger, the first charging bar is blinking on both batteries only, they have been on for around an hour and a half. This seems odd to me, and both batteries are less than a month old? It should be indicating partially charged already, anyone have an idea what the deal is?

Do you have any other batteries to test that with?

Because it looks like the batteries already have 3.7 volts on them, and if it doesn't go past that then the charger maybe no good anymore.

It could also be an indicator that the cells are damaged and can't be charged beyond 3.7 volts.

Hmmm...
Where did you get the brown batteries? (LG?)
What device are you using them within?
What is the resistance of your coil and how many watts are you feeding it?
The charger may charge 1 cell faster than two cells. If you are in a hurry, try them one at a time.

Cheers

I have a serious problem with this, you put batteries on a charger and then leave the house? Unattended charging of batteries is NEVER a safe thing.

My HG2's take 3 1/2 hours to charge in the D2, it will only charge at 500mAh when there are two cells installed.

I agree. This is especially true when the OP is dealing with batteries suspected of having some kind of issue. Not a good time to leave charging batteries unattended.

Lithium cells discharge to cutoff in a mod to about 3.2 - 3.3 volts. From there it takes my cells 3 to 3.5 hours to reach 4.2v. I'm charging at a 1A rate.

The Nitecore D2 isn't a fast charger. As TrollDragon said, with more than one cell it's probably charging at 3.75A to .5A rate. That's going to take a while.

Never leave your batteries charging unattended. There's always a chance that a cell is faulty or damaged and could vent and spew hot electrolyte and that can start a fire. You definitely want to be there if that happens.

mines take almost the same on a Efest Lush Q4, 3 at time or full 4 bays, my old intelli i4 from nite core took almost half hour more or 15mins, then moved to effest, cannot be happier!

Since you have another set of batteries that seem to be charging at a "normal rate", I suspect that the batteries in question are a little faulty or questionable.

The batteries in question could have been "old stock" before you purchased them. Batteries loose capacity and performance as they age, whether they are being used or not.

They could be counterfeits, if they were not purchased from a trusted battery supplier. Counterfeits are usually unknown quality cells that have be re-wrapped to look like authentic versions.

If you want a higher charge rate just buy a better charger. All the major charger brands have better chargers with higher charge rates, you just need to pick the charger with all the features you want and at a price you're willing to spend. Right now the XTar Dragon looks to be a very good choice for a semi-budget offering ($55.00) with a good feature set, including higher charging rates up to 3A, storage charge, IR measurement, and charge>discharge>charge cycling to measure battery condition. These 3 are very useful features for knowing good cells from bad and checking degradation over time of your cells and knowing when it's time to retire them from both a safety and performance perspective.

interesting features indeed, mostly when charge and store batteries for a while o at least some days, my efest so far is rocking, cannot complain, but if i have to change, thats the 1st option, thanks mate

To all concerned. No, I’m not charging lipos while I’m gone. I’ve been flying RC aircraft for decades now, which out of the electric ones, the lipos are considerably more potent than what I’m using. In my OP, I said I threw them in the charger to charge them for when I leave.

I never charge anything while I’m absent...

I have no idea. How much use have they seen?

Anna
I’d say, considering rotation, maybe 4-5 charges since I purchased them. They were purchased from my local Vape shop. They were brand new, sealed in the box.

No improvement, they are now off the charger as I’ve left the hotel( I’m on travel for work).

I guess I got some bum dope?

Looking now for a new charger, thanks for the help.

Taking these to the local vape shop later, I called and they are willing to dispose of them for me.

Yeah it's always a good idea to have some kind of test equipment for your batteries like me I have a couple of units that I can use to test battery sag. So after a little bit of time I will take my batteries charge them plug them into one of my testers I will activate the battery and I will check for the SAG if it drops too low so let's say it goes from 3.7 to 3 volts flat usually that's the sign of a weak battery or dying battery. A little bit of voltage sag is not bad so like 2/10 or 3/10 of a volt isn't that bad but 7/10 of a volt that's a little excessive in my opinion

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Your charger is fine for what you do. I was just saying if you want more there are some good chargers for reasonable cost. The new models from Nitecore and XTar are quite a bit better than the older models, but probably weren't available when you purchased yours since they are recently released.
