Chicago to tax at 95 cents per ml, and the county where Chicago resides to add an additional tax of 20 cents per ml. Do they think any vape shops will remain open? Who will pay that price?

    I feel for you.

Legalized Robbery! Hand full of Politicians grabbing at straws to make available funds to pizz away.

I find it hard to believe but it's on CAASA's website. I'm going to contact them via Twitter to see if that is accurate, and where the tax stands right now. I had heard 55 cents per ml, but they are now trying to increase it to 95 cents per ml. This is nuts.

Sucks. I live in this stinkin' state. The ONLY reason I stay is to reduce commuting time; if not for that, I'd move in a heartbeat! This state is broke, billions in debt, and they're trying to tax their way into the black. They've attacked businesses, residents, whoever they can to try and make a buck. But the democrats who run this state won't budge on anything. Now they think they can improve things by placing exorbitant taxes on our juice.

WON'T WORK! Not only can we order online (giving our money to other places), but we can DIY, and it's really not that far to get out of Chicago and enter another state. This is just another example of the total idiocy of the dems here.

Chicago and Cook County may think is going to be a good tax source, and it may prove beneficial as it drives folks back to the cigarettes. So far in Illiinois, AFAIK, they are the only ones to implement something like this. In the rest of the state, nothing has changed. Yet. You will see these kinds of actions more and more often once the FDA brings their regulations into existence. Right now the state and local governments don't know how to respond to e-cigs.

It will suck for the people in the area who have to depend on the B&Ms. The vape stores will see their e-liquid business come to a grinding halt. Since this is the biggest single profit maker, dedicated vape stores will begin to go under. Those who can travel will find it an hour's drive or less to get out of Chicago, even to Wisconsin or Indiana if necessary. New vapers and those who can't travel are really screwed.

This entire state is run by would-be socialists who desire nothing more than to control the people. Chicago has Rahm Emanuel at the helm. I believe you will see a black market emerge shortly in the city. Soon someone will be shot while trying to sell dripper refills on the corner!

I can't believe Chicago will collect much in the way of taxes, since so many Chicagoans will now buy their e-juices outside the city, typically on the internet. Those without internet access will buy from the black market. Can you guess who the black-market merchants will be?

On the other hand, a lot of vape-shop employees will now be beholden to their Chicago Democrat overlords for unemployment benefits. And the owners of those vape-shops will lose their investments, in many cases their lifetime savings. Sure doesn't make me want to invest in any kind of a job-creating Chicago business.

    Brilliant. Just brilliant.

As I've said elsewhere, there's a reason Chicago has lost a million residents in the last fifty years. I encourage Chicagoans to vote with their feet: leave. And if you absolutely can't leave, boycott the nit-wit Chicago voters who voted the mayor and moronic city council into office. Do you really need to buy that product or service within Chicago, or can you get it elsewhere? We live just north of Chicago, and we've been boycotting Chicago since February 2014, when that idiotic "vaping = smoking" ordinance went into effect. And when my wife retires, we're leaving Illinois.

bussdriver, let me correct you... that is Chicago and Crook County

I live in the state and most in Chicago already drive into Indiana to get gas and smokes so it will just remain business as usual.

Bruce Rauner is squeezing them and I think this is their way of adding revenue to line their pockets.

Sometimes it can be hell while Rauner and the dems argue about passing a budget. If you win the lottery, anything won over 600 bucks is paid with an IOU from the state. My wife works at a veteran's home, and it is becoming difficult just to feed our vets! They have been cut off from several suppliers simply because the food bills can't be paid!

But I hope Rauner squeezes every one of those .......s plumb out of their jobs.

Edit: I'm done now. In case you can't tell I'm just a little bit PO'd!

LOL... ya but you live in Chicago and have to deal with the fallout so you should be ....... I've lived here all my life and have seen how they push small business out of the city. They have no forward thinking or a plan, they rush to generate pocket cash and have very little concern for the residents.

And that means higher juice prices for all; including even us UK vapers hooked on the gourmet juice from Cali, I'm guessing....?
This won't affect your purchases from California or from anywhere else at this point. This is just a money grab in one county in the state Illinois.

Here in the US, states are made up of smaller counties. Each county can levy their own sales tax on top of the state tax. In this case Cook county in Illinois is trying to balance their budget on the backs of vaporers.

    It's not just vapors.

Rahm, the I can't tell the truth to save my life promised no new property taxes when he ran for re-election, he just raised property taxes. The politicians in Crook County are equal opportunity, they screw everyone everywhere with equal pleasure.

Look at the parking meters and how screwed up that turned out

But hey we will get that wonderful Star Wars museum built with tax dollars and later if you visit the venue taxed admission.

There is a reason so many Illinois politicians end up in prison. When you enter the city the welcome sign should say....
