So yesterday I received some wick and wire (in amazing time in fact, only took two days from day of shipment to get half way across the country). I got some 1.5 mm wick (only 5 ft. for now) and some 32 gauge kanthal. I rewicked my vivi nova with 5 wraps (which would almost appear to be as many wraps as I could get in their without it touching the walls (gonna get some rba's soon but wanted to test the waters. I used 2 pieces of wick in it. When I place the coil/ wick assembly in place I noticed it had to be forced to go in. Once all assembled and hooked up I got 1.6 ohm (hit's good and not bad for a first wrap) my question rests, using silica wick, what size is reccommended for a project such as CE's and do I need a different gauge of kanthal to raise my ohms or just sqeeze another coil in? What gauges of Kanthal are recommended?

Two schools of thought on one large wick or 3-4 small wicks. For me on my Vivi Novas I use (4) .8 mm wicks but have used (1) 2 mm wick the big one tends to unravel and become a mop type of look and works pretty good but I think the 4 .8mm works a tiny bit better IMO. I have also seen someone use a steel mesh in one. I personally would not try that as the chance of a short is to great. My feeling is that it is an art and not a science. Things like the juice you use, coil count and size of the wire make it a case of what works for you. If you find something that works for you hey why change. I have one flavor I use that defies a perfect solution as it gunk's up what ever I do. I have now rebuilt about 8 Vivi heads and a couple of CE heads all seem to work well enough. I like to work is so the windings are not right next to each other. Seems to allow more vapor. So I allow a very small gap between them. The rest is a case of phisics Space and resistance of the wire. I use both 32 ga and 30 on the bigger/longer coils.

you can squeeze more in but will probably be better to change the gauge,
the wire has so much resistance per inch 1 wrap or 6 its the same per inch by addig more wraps you are in effect making the wire longer so it will go up a small bit whereas a different gauge will make a bigger difference.
cant comment on wick as i dont do clearos, in my drippers i use 3mm braided.

and rbas will actually be easier to work on then the limited space inside a nova head. good luck!

so is there a general concept of this coil wrapped 5 times will give you x.x ohms that I'm missing, or a easy way to know how many ohms a coil will produce without "just toying" sorry again new to all of this but absorbing the information and growing them dendrites. And thanks steve i'll have to pick up some .8 mm wick and try that out instead. I have plans to get the RBA, no doubt gonna happen soon, just waiting for the better half to finish taxes so we can afford a few new toys :D Thanks again thrasher and steve, just trying to shine light and understand better.

I got this chart from some website or other... resistance per inch of Kanthal
30 awg (Ω/in) 0.7 ohms
31 awg (Ω/in) 0.9 ohms
32 awg (Ω/in) 1.2 ohms
33 awg (Ω/in) 1.4 ohms
34 awg (Ω/in) 1.8 ohms
35 awg (Ω/in) 2.3 ohms
36 awg (Ω/in) 2.9 ohms

edit:
oh, from the thread
