Thanks for posting!

I commented:

E Cigarettes are not the solution for every nicotine addicted smoker; they are the solution for many smokers who can not or choose not to give up nicotine but don't want to inhale deadly smoke to get it. I'm an ex smoker thanks to E Cigarettes. I tried one on December 6, 2009 and immediately switched to vaping. The improvement in my health, particularly my ability to breathe, is proof enough for me that E Cigarettes are less harmful than smoking. Now along comes the FDA wanting to classify E Cigarettes as a Drug Delivery Device (effectively banning them) rather than as a Tobacco Product (leaving them on the market). E Cigarettes have been around (worldwide) going on seven years; millions of consumers and not one report of serious illness or injury have been connected with them. So what’s the FDA’s sense of urgency to ban them? The FDA in its infinite wisdom believes that I should return to smoking unless and until E Cigarettes are approved as a Drug Delivery Device; they are a Tobacco Product, a safer alternative to smoking. I agree longer term studies are in order; however, no one is dropping dead from them in the short run. If I continue vaping rather than smoking, I may still be around to see the outcome of those longer term studies! The FDA’s motives are questionable at best; from my viewpoint, they are not about protecting my health!

Vickie is truly a nice person to do business with. I placed an order after lunch today for some juices and an Ego cone mega atomizer and got a confirmation from USPS that it had been received about 3 hours later. They make two runs a day to the Post Office. Cignot Rocks!

I thought the interview was excellent. Since Rush picked up an Ecig and started talking about it, everyone in the media wants to talk to distributors and anyone associated with the industry. We are on the map and it's just in time for the FDA appeal due in September. Lots of people haven't heard the correct details on Ecigs and they are about to be informed!

Greg Jarret asked listeners to email him about using an e-cigarette. I tracked down the online form to do so and sent this message:

You might want to take a look at two published surveys of e-cigarette consumers. Jean-François Etter, BMC Public Health 2010, 10:231. BioMed Central | Full text | Electronic cigarettes: a survey of users
Heavner, et al. Tobacco Harm Reduction Yearbook 2010. http://tobaccoharmreduction.org/wpapers/011v1.pdf
The first survey of European users shows that 63% have completely replaced all their smoked cigarettes with using an e-cigarette. The second survey of US, Canadian, and UK users indicates that 79% have switched completely from inhaling smoke to inhaling vapor. All were former smokers, 91% had made previous quitting attempts, and over 90% report their health has improved since they made the switch. In contrast, when FDA-approved nicotine drugs are used as directed (weaning down and off), the smoking abstinence rate is 7% at 6 months, 5% at 1 year, and only 2% at 20 months. If the FDA gets the go-ahead from the courts to regulate e-cigarettes as a drug delivery device, they will (mark my words) lower the nicotine content and only approve the products for use to wean down and off nicotine. Any guesses what the success rate for smoking abstinence will be once those changes are made? The nicotine content is so low in the patch, gum, and lozenges that they are not a satisfactory long-term replacement for most smokers. Chewing as many pieces of gum as my digestive tract can handle, I managed to get down to half a pack a day, but no further. It took the e-cigarette to allow me to ditch those last 10 cancer sticks. I've been abstinent from smoking since March 27, 2009.

And my 2-

"I understand you're looking for testimonials on E-Cigs.

About thirteen months ago I was a two to three pack a day, 43 long year smoker who had given up trying to quit. Heck, I did that at least a dozen times with everything except Chantix.

Purchase an E Cig on a lark (gf wanted to give them a try). I immediately dropped my consumption to half a pack a day. That went on for about six months, but I couldn't get past those last few smokes.

I found out about a same, spit-less, smokeless product, Swedish snus. Researched and figured out how to the it. From the first portion (a bit of finely ground tobacco in a teabag type material), I have not had another puff on a smoke in almost seven months.

If the government and the FDA wanted to get people to quit smoking, the would offer a continuum of health risk from the most risky, smoking, to the least risky tobacco alternatives. Things like Swedish snus, Ariva, Stonewalls and the E-cig are conservatively 90% safer than smoking and from the research done 98-99% safer. More similar to the health risks of caffeine rather than ........

Puritanical abstinence ideology will not stop smoking. Education and promotion of safer products may. I know that had I known what I know now and had the E-cig been around years ago, I would have quit soon after I got out of the Army in 1971. Nicotine and Tobacco, per se, are not the villain here. Personally I was a bit bothered by her interview. She made many mistatements such as "it vaporizes the water just like a humidifier".

Also she stated that there were no studies of the long term effects of inhaling PG, but there is (perhaps not a long enough term but after 18 months and no effects how much longer does it need to be). http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/91/1/52.abstract

If I could offer some constructive criticism, if she is going to put herself out there as a spokesperson for ecigarettes she should work on her "shpeel" to better inform people of the positive aspects and to ensure that she does not put out any false information.

TESTS FOR THE CHRONIC TOXICITY OF PROPYLEXE GLYCOL AND TRIETHYLENE GLYCOL ON MONKEYS AND RATS BY VAPOR INHALATION AND ORAL ADMINISTRATION ? JPET

The FDA and the 'health' organizations aren't going to accept that study. It doesn't fit their agenda. That was done over 50 years ago. Before the new science that comes to a negative conclusion, despite what the facts might state.

I for one appreciate everything Vicky , and others are doing to bring the e-cigarette to the forefront.
Shotline, you have to consider she has to take the chemical reaction that is going on when we vape and dummy it down to a level for the general public to understand and in a limited sound bite. Not such an easy task.

To give you a better understanding of how this research would have been performed today, here would be the last two paragraphs that would replace the last one from 50 some years ago.

"The results of these experiments in conjunction with the absence of any observed ill effects in patients exposed to both triethylene glycol and propylene glycol vapors for months at a time, provide assurance that air containing these vapors in amounts up to the saturation point is completely harmless. However, the results of the study may be deceiving because flavoring, such as those used in electronic cigarettes to market the products to children were not tested. In addition, due to the inhalation method required to deliver propylene glycol laden with deadly nicotine by atomizer, inhalation will need to be deeper and thus may cause serious negative effects

We avidly caution that there may be serious consequence in any use of propylene glycol in any of the drug delivery devices and extensive testing should be completed before any conclusions are reached based on this study."

To label the pv's as a drug delivery device they would have to label cigarettes as a drug delivery device. Or better yet tobacco pipes a drug delivery device. Or better yet the trucks that deliver cigarettes to gas stations a drug delivery device. What is wrong with this world.

Of course I would love to know what the long term affects of the vaping are. If they are bad for me then I will try to quit.

Somehow I don't recall them taking cigarettes of the market while they performed clinical trials and tests. Then to top it off they found out they kill you without a doubt and they are still sold to the public and provide a tax revenue equivilant to that of most small countries.

The Industry behind this like Joyetech and others should be forced to pay for clinical trials but we shouldn't have to stop vaping in the meantime.

So long as you, the consumer, are willing to pay for the cost of it to be incorporated into the products you purchase.

Similar to when a new medication is released. The pill cost $1 a day. The second pill costs a $1, the first one cost $400,000,000 because of the cost of research, clinical trials, etc.............

Not saying research and trials are bad, but there will be a heavy cost associated with them.

Im willing to pay a few bucks extra. If there are a million people using PV's and the price increases 1 buck for each of us then that's not so bad. I'm sure that the Chinese companies are making tons and tons and tons of money on the devices that a few million bucks would be a drop in the bucket.

I mean what if they find out that E Cigs are worse for us than cigarettes. I dobt that will happen but what if.

I wouldn't be so sure the Chinese companies are making tons of money. Ruyan reorganized recently and has been fighting to preserve its patent rights in China. My guess would be they are hanging on by a shoestring.

Riddle me this: If e-cigarettes are potentially harmful, how is it possible that over 90% of users report that their general health has improved?

How have they been in use since 2004 with zero reports of any serious adverse effects?

Is it possible that 20 years down the road we find out that long-term inhalation of PG causes disease X? Sure. Anything's possible.

But if I kept smoking instead of switching, 20 years down the road I doubt that I would have been alive, judging by the wheezing that was keeping me awake nights back when I smoked.

That's a +400,000,000

Look, there are a lot of things we, as humans, consume every day. When was the long term study done on the Big Mac or, more recently, Red Bull. I've personally had issues with red bull to the point that I won't drink it any more.

I think seven years of positive results world wide on a product that replaces a known hazard should be embraced rather than vilified. The study to identify what is being exhaled makes a tremendous amount of sense. For one, it clarifies the issue on public usage. But more importantly, it would give those that still smoke some honest information on the potential health risk for the user. The FDA's disinformation only encouraged many to continue smoking.

I really don't even vape much anymore after over a year on the product. A few portions of snus a day and an occasional puff here and there and I'm good to go. It's more principle at this point. It's time for those making money on the backs of the smoking public to come clean and be honest about relative dangers, even if it causes them to lose their funding.

I doubt anything in china is hanging from a shoe thread. The average income for a worker is something like 5,000 USD a year. And that is being generous based on what legal workers are making. It can be way less for those working under the table. Imagine you had access to such cheap labor. You could make a million dollars a year selling homemade apple pies.

I don't know if they are dangerous and I doubt they are but anything ingested in this country is subject to FDA inspection. If you have a restaurant then someone comes in and makes sure your coolers are working and you have soap and water and a clean safe environment. The same needs to be done with E Juice sellers. If you have a beef factory then someone is testing that beef for disease. That someone being the FDA or USDA
