Tried something new this week. Cinnamon extract in PG. Really simple and really good. Here's what I did.
1) crushed two cinnamon sticks into a rough (not fine) powder. Covered with about 20-25 ml of PG, all into a small covered jar, and shook vigorously.
2) Placed the jar inside the little slow cooker we used as a bottle warmer when the kids were smaller. It's got a "warm" setting that I'm guessing is about 120-130 degrees. Left it in there about 8 hours, shaking vigorously ever hour or two.
3) Let the mix cold steep overnight.
4) Warmed it back up in the slow cooker, just to get things flowing better for filtering. Started by running it through a unbleached coffee filter tucked into a small food funnel. This got rid of all the big particles. Next, I sent it twice through the cotton ball/syringe method. Finally, filtered from a syringe through a bounty paper towel.
At this point, it was good to go. Let me maybe 15-18 ml of extract, to which I added another few mls of PG and a few of VG to thicken it up, as well as a single drop of sucralose. I'm still working on the concentration, but this is pretty close to vape ready. Wasn't ready to go straight up, so I mixed it with some apple (10% LA) at about a 1:3 ratio. Really nice result. It's a clean cinnamon, nothing like the candy red-hot flavor. So far, the coils have held up fine, as has the plastic EVOD tank it's in. We'll see how they do in the long run.
I'm aware that there are some concerns with vaping cinnamon. But as a former cigar smoker, I don't inhale my vape, so it's not a terrible concern to me.
BTW - is it time for a subforum for extracts that aren't tobacco? I've done coffee and cinnamon now, with cocoa, cilantro, and some other ideas in my future. (hmm ... coffee, cilantro, cinnamon, and cocoa ... maybe I should get out of the C's for a bit.
