i keep trying out different ss Clapton coils and other “exotic” coils to find out why so many people enjoy them so much. I’m always left disappointed. I get the “same” great flavor & clouds from my simple round builds with lower power and less juice usage.

What am I missing?

I enjoy claptons on large atties with lots of power for DTL power rips. The rampup is slower so I can take a really big breath and not loose a lung. I keep the simple round wire builds for mechs or MTL builds or small atty builds. Some of my atties (goons especially) dont shine unless there is a big ol clapton in there. The more space, the larger the air hole, the more likely I will use a clapton in there.

Maybe you aren't Missing Noth'n ?

I've tried different types of Claptons, Aliens, and Tiger this and Staple that. And I still prefer just a Simple Round Wire Coil.

They might Not win any Photo Contests. But they are what I like Best.

Claptons are less efficient than round wire builds, that's a fact.
If you use brute force wattage on a regulated device you can overcome their limitations to some degree.
Claptons produce more flavour and more vaporz, debatable and somewhat irrelevant. If you like them use them.

Claptons seem to work well in certain atomizers, and do not tend to work well at lower power ranges. It took me a while to find one that I liked, with a fast ramp up, and worked at the wattage range I vape at. Most of the time, the flavor and vapor production is going to be negligible from round wire builds.

I dont care about looks or status, I run fused claptons because they tend to hold up longer than round wire builds when rewicking and cleaning. I use thin wire so it is easy to distort or mess up a coil when doing maintenance. I also usually get double the life from the coil before flavor starts dropping off when using a fused clapton compared to round wire so I don't have to rebuild nearly as often.

I use SS claptons somewhat often aswell as simple round SS wire (24 and 22 Ga)
Imo simple round wire has much better flavor, but it tends to gunk up and need cleaning more often than my claptons, of course the power i use always depends on my resistance but overall claptons perform better for me with gunkier liquids but for taste i much prefer round wire

Bonus: round wire again imo functions 100x better in temp control than claptons simply because there's less mass to heat, and its more energy efficient as someone else pointed out.

I think they are made for more vapor, not flavor. A coils job is to vaporize the juice that the cotton has in it. Adding another layer of wire around a wire to "trap" juice sounds like a gimmick to me, unless you drip directly onto it.
They probably do produce more vapor, but the fact it traps juice in the coil is not a gimmick. It works the same way the mesh wire wicks do.
