It would be really cool, at least for me, if B&M shops offered workshops/classes on more complicated e cig stuff, like RBAs, or even the simple stuff for beginners (info on battery types, thread types, how to drip, how to properly fill cartos, basic troubleshooting, etc.). I know that the demand might not be high enough to hold these workshops, but I think some newbies might really benefit from them; i know there are conventions, but some might be intimidated to attend a vape Fest or something similar.
Some of these things might seem like no-brainers to some, but I bet there are some smokers looking to switch to e cigs, they go on a website, get overwhelmed, and decide to forget about it. I would pay someone to show me how to rebuild an atomizer, and explain how to get higher/lower resistances by coiling, and show me the different set ups in person! The ECF is a great source of knowledge, and YouTube vids are great, but nothing beats an in person demo.
If these workshops/classes already exist in the Chicagoland area, please give me the info?
I wonder if there are guys who will come out (for a fee, of course), and give technical assistance on e cigs, like computer repair guys! ;)

I dont know if any B&M shops would do a "class" on rba's and that kind of stuff. I think that there would be a huge liability issue if someone messed up and blew up the RBA they were working on. That being said i think alot of B&M shops (the better ones at least:2cool:)will help you out if you show up and ask them questions, or there will be someone hanging out there that will be able to help you out. Also this forum and youtube have loads and loads of information on it for you learn from.

That's a good point; someone could sue.
However, they could use the same warnings the manufacturers and YouTube video makers put out, which is "use at your own risk". They could have people sign a liability waiver? That might be a bit much just for a class though, and might scare people!

I don't know if it would be of any help but if you type in "You tube rebuilding RBA" there are a few videos on it

It's definitely helpful, but it's not the same as someone showing you in person. I assume there is some trial and error in the process.
Maybe I will have to hit the next Windy City Vapers meeting. :D

Vendors want to stay at arms length in regards to workshops, tutorials, etc as it would be far too time consuming to answer follow up questions in the weeks that followed. There's also the issue of liability- that's part of the reason Vendors will only supply Manufacturer instruction booklets and not their own and Vendors rely heavily on ECF members to trouble shoot and provide tutorials.

i find you tube is a great tool but most don't explain everything a class would be nice like homedot does.

I'll give what I found yesterday. when working with ss mesh the wick has to be able to move in and out of the coil freely. not loose, but not tight. and you do this buy rolling your wick between your hands like you are warming up your hands but with the wick rolling around. this is hard to explain and can only be done really by showing. so i feel your pain but two days of messing up you will get it. it's easy once you know what you are doing.

Im curious, what would you guys want to see in an instructional, general, introductory RBA video?

So far i have
- why use RBAs
- component breakdown
- How it works and what can be fine tuned
- basic physics involved
- step by step making basic sample wick and coil
- troubleshooting

I am also making a "crash course" type video for new vapers, basically how everything works, hardware recommendation, and the likes. What would you want to see in that as well?

Guess I am one of the lucky ones. I have several B&M shops in my area and the below is right off one of their facebook pages...

We will start our Classes in a couple of weeks. On Saturdays we will have classes on Rebuilables,Wick Making and DIY E-Liquid amongst other things. If you would like to participate and help others feel free to come on in to the on the schedule. You can share recipes and help mentor new Vapers! The Schedule will be posted on Facebook and on our website hopefully by Saturday.

I plan to look into this...
