solution to what? A free market?

In a free market you can put any price you want on something you own, you will either find someone willing to pay it or you won't.
so just because some members feel the prices for some of these items is too much for them to spend you are trying to make a rule about how everyone can price their items?

If they feel the price is to high then they don't have to buy the item. problem solved.

I guess then they will have to resort to the old ebay trick of marking shipping and handling way up.
or are you going to make a rule about how much the handling charge can be too?

For the record i have never profiteered. but it is not your responsibility to dictate who can sell what or for how much.

What people are seemingly forgetting is, we have members who buy hard to get items, they go out of stock, then they post them on the Classifieds for unreasonable prices. So you think this is ok? Well I don't and neither do many others. 99% of the time, this is the price gouging we see complaints on and this is what we mainly want to stop. I don't see how this is "free market", I see it as underhanded profit scheming and we will not contribute to these people making a profit off our members on hard to acquire items.

No item that is no longer in production or is one-of-a-kind will be affected by this new rule.

"but it is not your responsibility to dictate who can sell what or for how much" so enforcing the rules is not my responsibility? Profiting in the Classifieds is a violation, selling non-ecig related items is a violation, so it's not my responsibility to enforce these rules?

I think people are reading too much into this new rule and not truly understanding the purpose.

i just posted this in another thread but i like it so i will post it here also

personally i think the classifieds should be sorted by price and not by most recent GLWS post or other bump posts

Thread sorting is something I'm requesting and pricing would definitely be one of the search criteria but so far there hasn't been any activity towards this project. I haven't forgotten but there are higher priority jobs before this. As soon as time permits, the coders will get started on this.

could not agree with you more. I personally think it sucks there has to be a rule made like this but we've all seen limited production mods go in hours and then appear for double the price the next day. If people would be reasonable there would not need to be rules made. Life isnt fair but the ECF classys are!

The only thing that I've found to be irritating is that suddenly people are posting negative comments in the sales if they perceive that the items are overpriced. If I understand things, the form was designed so that this wouldn't happen. If someone did that to me I would be offended, it's like publicly insulting someone when there is no reason for it and "skirting" the report form you designed.

If you want to control what items can be sold (non-ecig, Etc) thats fine and i fully understand. But do you really think that your rule is going to change anything? Do you think that the profiteers are going to stop trying to make a profit on the hard to find items.

All it will do is remove those items from ECF and onto other forums. So instead of the ECF members having to pay a premium if they are unable to get in on a hard to buy item they won't be able to buy it all. Personally i would rather be able to find the items i am interested in and then make the choice if the price is worth it to me or not instead of having to go around checking every other forum.

99% of the time, this is the price gouging we see complaints on and this is what we mainly want to stop. I don't see how this is "free market"

then you really must not understand the concept of a free market,

Free market-

a. an economic system that allows supply and demand to regulate prices, wages, etc, rather than government policy

I got attacked 2 days ago for allegedly gouging, and it got way out of control. I ended up posting a line item breakdown of my exact out of pocket cost, and I had $.02 in profit on a $160 item. Before I had to go that far I reported the offensive posts. The thread ended up getting shut down, because it got so out of line.
This is 1 example of what I quoted above.

I am all for this new rule, I have been quite vocal about the need for it long before it came to be. However we suddenly have self impowered classified police, that have no idea what they are talking about. I know there is no way that you guys can keep up with every thread, nevermind in real time, but we need a resource thats aware that this new "monster" is lurking. :2c:

again, those posts should be reported! (click that little triangle with the ! in it at the bottom of the message)
I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong but the way I understand it, if someone has a problem with a price on the classifieds they are supposed to fill out that form, not comment on the thread. and the person reporting has to put in links to show the retail prices and they have to be sure they are right or they (the reporter) can get in trouble.

I did report the offensive posts. Before I responded. I waited until it started to look like I was ripping people off. Then thats when I let them have it, without being rude, or attacking anyone. I just posted the truth, so they could see how foolish they were being.

I don't like the price gouging, but the title is "Member Classifieds and Swaps". If I don't like the price, I don't buy it. Same as the newspaper. I don't see what the big deal is. I have bought plenty of stuff here, and none of it was overpriced, so there are a lot of honest sellers out there. Are we really going this far to prevent stupidity. If people stop paying the high prices, then people will stop selling so high.

I can post a ego for a million dollars and swear that's what it's worth but until I find someone stupid enough to pay me a mil for it it's not worth jack........

Who is the idiot here the buyer or seller? To me it's the buyer. There are a few things like old GG's that are worth a higher price. But new ones aren't worth more than the asking price and no I don't give a rats furry behind what it cost to have it shipped to YOU. I'm buying a product not the cost of service that you paid.

But in the end you get what you pay for. If you pay 200 for something worth 50 when you get ready to sell it to me be aware that I'm only gonna give 50 for it regaurdless what you SAY it's worth what matters is what's it worth to me

If your not buying a product you have no business in the sellers thread. If you want to be a moderator I'm sure there is a procedure in place for that.

So you aren't allowed to ask a question about the item or about why there is a mark up in price....lol if your scared of getting your feelings hurt or can't handle a few questions maybe you shouldn't post items for sale to protect your obviously delicate feelings.

And posting "yea he's a great guy" doesn't help me to decide to buy a item or not.

You seem to get some enjoyment out of derailing threads, and starting inflammatory back and forths. I can see by your feedback score that you have no interest in buying anything anyway. So again you have no business in sellers threads, other than to start crap. Read the rules. Your posts wouldn't get deleted if you followed them.

I buy all kinds of things on the classies so your just here to start a personal bone pick because I asked you why you were charging more than a new one when you had for less than a week. And oh yea by the way I got a 18650 P+ last night off the classies. So you really don't know what your talking about

People that want to make legitamate offers or inquiries into my products, do so like respectfull interested members using the PM system. You don't develop a rep and a following like I have by ripping people off, or gouging prices. Like you falsely claim I do. In a thread that you had no intention in purchasing.
BTW, I didn't realize you were a shrink as well as a truck driver. A man of many talents. Thats cool.
