I'm sure it has been mentioned but it would make the browsing so much easier.....serparate the the "for sale" and "for trade" items. It is so frustrating to find something you really like to then find out it is only "for trade".

Yes, I know they put the "FT" or "FS" in the title but ask yourself how many times you have been fooled :)

So what do we do when they will do FS or FT. Do we create 3 forums one for FS FT and both? The Classified forums won't be split up any further than they are now. If we did it would create a maze of navigation just to view.

To resolve the issue you present, I'm trying to get some custom sort features built but no eta on that request.

If I need to know the worth of the item that was sold, I PM the seller and asked them politely. I explain to them why I need the information and so far I have 100% success.

Except that, for months, the seller might be pummelled with PMs asking that question........all staggered at different times...........kinda inconvenient for everyone involved.

Sold prices should be a matter of record, just like it is for real estate. What's the big secret anyway?

Suggestion: Would it be possible if we can edit our classified threads for the duration that the thread is active?

Reason: This clearly makes it easier for people who are new to the thread to see what remains and what does not when they are potential buyers/traders. Usually for big listings.

Thanks.

Another reason why this would be a good idea is that some people lower their price several posts down from the OP but the OP can edit their post anymore so members only see the first asking price and move on without knowing that the price has been reduced.

And also the option for new items if someone just bought say a Twist but doesn't want it and it is still in box.

This was discussed extensively and it was decided that anything bought and resold should be considered used. So Like New was chosen to fill this description, "Like New - No scratches, possibly never used or used very little, and completely functional." So if it's brand new never used, select like new and describe appropriately in the description.

Can it be made a rule that (CA) be reserved for Canadian listings only and not for use by people in California? It's just a minor annoyance, but I always get my hopes up just a little when I search for (CA) and see a great item only to find out that it's actually someone in California selling and not Canada.

I understand your concern and I did find one ad from California that selected CA instead of US. I don't see a point in making a rule when the instructions clearly ask what country you reside in. So if someone won't read and follow the question on the form, I would suspect that they wouldn't read the rule either. Now this is assuming you are referring to the (CA) in the title. I was able to search (CA) and retrieve some that were (US) in the title and I'm sure it was because they were located in California, that can't be changed because it's the state abbreviation.

You can only edit your post within 48hrs, after that you can't.

I can see the reason for this.

By not allowing an edit it keeps the integrity of the original ad intact. Otherwise, a less than honorable seller could go back and alter the condition or the other details while a transaction is in progress, or right after it has already taken place.

The buyer would be unable to prove that the material conditiions of the entire ad/sale had changed if they allowed edits to the original ad. I suspect the 48 hours is grace period, in case you forgot to mention something, or made a typo or something.

ETA: oh, I see it is actual a forum-wide thing. Well, I still can see how it would actually be appropriate in the classies section, if nowhere else. I like to see the original ad preserved. Even though it's a hassle to read further down when prices are dropped.

Maybe I am misunderstanding some things, but I think some sellers could tighten up how they use write their ads.

I withdrew an offer on a small item this week because the seller added fees which were not dislcosed in the ad. I expected to pay the asking price, plus the shipping fee quoted in the ad. When the seller totalled me up, there were extra charges, and I asked what they were, and they said Paypal fees. I don't like being surprised by charges that are not disclosed, nor will I pay them.

Another seller wanted me to pay for tracking because they don't use on-line shipping. Tracking protects the seller--- otherwise, they have no proof of shipping the customer's item if they can't show tracking / actual acceptance into the USPS system.

I use Paypal shipping, and tracking is free. I assumed that most sellers who take Paypal payments ship thru Paypal, or some other online postage supplier where tracking is also free.

If a seller wants to go to the Post Office and pay an extra $0.85 tracking at the window, I'm really not interested in paying that, on a $4.50 item because it inflates the cost to me to where I can just go buy the item at retail. :)
