Not to doubt your method but I always thought that inhalation of Isopropyl Alcohol was extremely dangerous. Here's a link to one of many sites listing the dangers.

What Are the Dangers of Inhaling Rubbing Alcohol? | eHow.com

Can anyone with medical knowledge confirm its not dangerous to clean parts with this solution?

I used 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (not booze) and 2 almost new Joye brand 510 attys. It flaked up the paint so that only about 50% of it remained, I just scraped away the rest and I think those 2 are going to be fine (if no paint chips got inside to plug it)...shiny silver now though...which is fine my me. I'd prefer they shipped them with no paint anyway. Mine always starts chipping off eventually and the alcohol probably just loosened it where it was already weak anyway.

ok, I will pick up a few extra attys so I can dry them properly. On a similar note, will it hurt the atty if it is left in the alcohol overnight? or is that overkill?

overkill...

5 to 10 minutes and then run the alcohol through the atty repeatedly until junk stops coming out...

Then tap out and dry...

8-o

If I were to continue using this method I'll have to make sure it dries even more so... I know it evaporates pretty quickly, but how much "residue" is left when it is evaporated? iso-alchohol "residue" that is?

90% isopropyl alcohol as sold at the drug store is 90% isopropyl alcohol and 10% distilled water.

Once it is evaporated- there is no residue.

We used to clean tape heads on mainframe tape controllers using isopropyl alcohol back in the old days and those couldn't have any residue left after cleaning or the tape would smear it and cause read errors and would ruin the tape. It doesn't leave a residue.

Inhaling fumes are one thing, residue is another. Isopropyl evaporates cleanly.

Funny story. One of our sales reps ran out of gas on a country road and poured several quarts of isopropyl (labeled "film remover") in his gas tank. It mixed with the gas that was left in a corner of the tank and got him to a gas station with no engine damage.

I ran 13 old and little-used 510 attys through cozz's alcohol cleaning method and I'm happy to report that 6 of 8 I've tried since then work like they are new. I'm betting I end up with at least 8-9 out of the 13 working like new. I used a 50% isopropyl alcohol solution.
Best success I've ever had in restoring "bad" atomizers. I'm staying with it.

hey cozzicon awesome video!

I'm getting my FIRST ecig (tornado/ego) soon and I'll definitely be using your recommendation of cleaning.

I'm a lil paranoid here, can someone reconfirm with me isopropyl alcohol is perfectly safe?

Also once i put isopropyl alcohol and cleans it, how many times can i re-use the bowl of isopropyl alcohol before disposing it for a new bowl?

thanks!

I tried an alcohol rinse. It ate the black paint off the outside of my matte black ones to a mess of flakes and turned the platinum finish on my platinum atomizers to a messy transparent gel/flakes.

The Platinum ones are just ruined. I am soaking the black attys more to try and remove the remaining flaky mess of paint and finish and salvage them. Otherwise they will be ruined and may well be ruined inside anyway, I can't tell yet.

Isopropyl Alcohol = NOT recommended.

Happened to me too...:(

Also note.... I use this at night with the atty I used that day. In theory, as yet unproven, it may extend the life of the atty is the atty is "cleared" of juice or buildup on a consistent basis.
