My standards may be somewhat low, but I believe I had a brilliant light bulb go off over my head this morning.
To clean some liquid leakage out of the recess around the threads on an 801 Prodigy adapter, I took my cotton bandana (always at hand, I'm a snuffer) and laid it across the adapter. Then I took the cartless 801 atty and used the hollow mouth end of it to smush and twist the layer of bandana down into the recess around the post on the adapter. It was a perfect fit for the purpose!
Paper towel works too.
