I cleaned an atomizer by soaking it overnight with Polident the other day and thought I would share the results.

I needed to clean one of my Janty atomizers as it started tasting bad. The atomizer was rinsed in warm water then covered in water with one polident tab and left to soak overnight. The next morning I blew it out as best I could and stood it on end to dry out. Later that day I blew it out again and put 3 drops of juice on the atomizer before using it. When I first started using it I was very dissapointed. Much harder to draw and not much smoke. Thought about throwing it away. I put it up for a while and tried again after a couple of hours. Much better this time. Seems the atomizer was still holding a bit of water which the juice needed time to displace.

The next day, I am very happy with the results. It is easier to draw than a new Janty cartridge and the smoke is very heavy again. Best of all the bad taste is gone.

Polident... Interesting ... May just have to give this a try....

You have dentures Brian?

Yeah, you gotta make sure to get all the water out, and allow the eliquid to soak the atomizer.

Yes I have dentures. Like them better than the original teeth LOL. The Polident did put a bit of menthol tast in the atomizer (Likely because it hadn't fully dried) and it smelled minty fresh. No problem for me as I'm a menthol guy anyway. Interstingly though, the draw feels much lighter now.

hmmmmmm.....

I use vinegar and water ... mainly because its cheap and readily available everywhere. Haven't had any issues, just gotta make sure to rinse the vinegar water out real well, or the first few puffs will be nice and VINEGARY ... lol ...

Mint aftertaste sure do sound better than a vinegar aftertaste! Does Polident like bubble and fizz like alkeseltzer (sp?) ???

Yup. Plenty of bubbles. I figured if it can remove tar and nicotine stains from dentures it should be good for atomizers.

You convinced me! I'm actually making a video on how to clean atomizers this weekend! Maybe we should go with Polident for the "Special Effects" (aka, the bubbles ... lol)

Awesome Idea Brian!!! Thanks :thumb:

One of the things I was worried about is how the paint on the atomizer would stand up to the Polident. Didn't seem to affect it but it may take a couple more cleanings to discover any problems.

The atomizer seems to have crapped out on me again. Became harder to draw and less smoke. I keep my carts topped off and drip so it is not that. Put the same cart in a new atomizer and it works well. Been using it heavily for a month so it may just be wore out. Or I may be oversaturating it with juice. Going to try cleaning it again with Polident and this time use two pills. If that doesn't mess up the paint I'd say its safe.

Update. Two pills damaged the paint. I bubbled up all over like it had been hit with paint remover. Might work for powdercoated or ceramic coated models but is definitly a no-go for painted atomizers :(

The upside to this is once your atomizer starts getting scratched and the paint is coming off - we now know 2 polident tablets will remove the rest of the paint :).

Besides the paint coming off - did 2 tablets work on cleaning the inside of the atomizer?

Oh yes, looks good as new inside. Draws better too. Could be a cheaper brand of denture cleaner might not damage the paint. I'll have to do some research to see what ingredient might be the culprit and see if there is another brand without it.

Keep us posted. I think I will use the polident to remove the paint on some of my atomizers. I hate having to scrap it off. I would rather have a metal atomizer then scratched ones.

I soaked it overnight with two tablets and just enough hot water to cover it. It looked fine at first but seemed like the paint was a little soft when I was drying it. As I rubbed some more the paint just started getting bubbles all over. A couple of trips through the polident should do the trick for ya.

Thanks Brian, will try it tonight.

Ha. Made ya look you perve :w00t: Just to show how well it strips paint. I added this picture. In keeping with the whole dental cleanser theme, I cleaned my atomizer with mouthwash. Seems to have worked very well for now. I immersed it in mouthwash and blew the mouthwash through the atomizer several times. To dry it I twisted a piece of toilet paper (clean of course) and inserted it into the atomizer to soak up excess moisture, then dryed the outside. Juiced it up and and gave it a draw. Took a couple of draws to get good smoke but it seems to have worked for now. I'll check back in a few days to report on the longevity. Looks pretty stylish I think. That is the chord from a whistle around it. I carry my Janty around my neck. Just buy a coach's whistle from Target and you will figure it out.

I have been using this atomizer for a month which to me is about the life of an atomizer so I don't mind experimenting with it. Think Janty will take it back now LOL. My wife has been using hers for over a month with no problems. No problems with batteries either. They last over a day of heavy smoking. We use the manual switch exclusively though.

well i tried the non alcohol mouthwash and well the burning metal taste still there. I suppose that the atomizer is burnt up.. well anywho... the taste was not as bad by half and the draw was alot better. What i did was soak it in a cup of non alcohol mouthwash( crest prohealth) for about an hour. Then i blew out the mouthwash and rinsed it a couple times blowing it out frequently. Then i soaked it for about 20 mins in a cup of hot water. Blew it out again and rinsed a couple times. Blew it out for about 5 mins and then put about 6 drops of juice in there. Set it upside down to drain while i was gone but still have oil on there so nothing rusted. Came home about an hour and a half later and blew it out again. Added 2 drops and it came back to life full force like nothing ever happened to it, only to have half the burning taste still there. Im convinced it is burnt up inside so i will have to wait for more atomizers to arrive before i try it on my other one which is getting hard to draw on. Oh and for about 5 mins after you get a pleasant taste instead of vinegar.. ...

im trying non alcohol mouthwash right now on a supermini atomizer that i cant get rid of the burning taste after cleaning it a couple days ago.. taste like burning metal.. little tiny black particles are coming out of it

That doesn't sound good. If they are comming out of it then they are likely caught up in the atomizer and if they are not disolved somehow, you will still get the taste. I used a generic brand with alcohol. You might try that. Another idea I have had is to use hot water and a dash of bleach. Bleach is great for disolving coffee stains. If you did the mouthwash thing after the bleach there shouldn't be any residue or bad taste left. My main problem is a plastic taste I get everytime I use a Janty cart. It tasted so nasty when I first got it that I almost sent it back. Love it with any other cart.
