Cleaning clearos - baking soda and vinegar??

I saw a comment on another site that suggested using baking soda and vinegar to clean the type of clearos that you can't disassemble. Isn't that mixture corrosive? Have any of you tried it? It just seems like there'd be some kind of residue left behind, even if it isn't corrosive.

The "bubbling" part got me thinking... Has anyone tried using peroxide to clean these out?

I've been using just hot distilled water to try to rinse them out and prolong their life, but if there's a more effective method, I'd be much appreciative if someone would educate me.

Baking soda might be something worth experimenting with, I hadn't thought of it. If you have a pan with cooked on gunk you can soak it in water with baking soda overnight and it wipes out clean in the morning - no scrubbing. Hmmm...

I don't use vinegar though. It works for some people, but I tried it a couple of times and couldn't get the taste out.

You would have to really rinse them out good as that can leave solids behind. Just regular alcohol does just fine. If you want to and have a jewelry cleaner that works just use warm water though no cleaning solution. A water pick will blast them out good too. kind of messy though. You put the pick on the hole on the bottom and it blasts out stuff through the wick.

Don't think that would work. The bubbling is just a reaction to catalase in your blood. In fact you shouldn't even use Hydrogen Peroxide on wounds as the only thing it actually does is increase your likelihood of scarring.

I would never use baking soda and vinegar, I think it would leave solids behind, especially on the fibers of the wicks. I personally have used vinegar, but I always mix it with water when I do and I do a very quick soak (maybe five minutes) before rinsing to avoid coroding. My sure-fire method is vodka. I get the cheapest they have and let them soak for a while before letting them air dry completely.

I use the Flavor Eraser from Vixen for my dripping attys, but I was unsuccessful when I tried it on a clearo. The stuff tastes very nasty and I couldn't get it out of the string wicks.

FYI: You can post the name of Vixen (they are my favorite juice vendor), but not a link to their website. They are a "banned" vendor and the url is blocked. Vendors can be banned for a variety of reasons, from TOS violations to extreme creepiness. The reason a specific vendor is banned is confidential, so if you run across one proceed with caution until you know more about them. Some banned vendors I wouldn't touch with a 12,000mAh pole, but I buy from Vixen at least once a month.

I did not know that! Thank you!
