Cleaning Ody so as to elimimate the soap flavor...

I would really appreciate if someone could post the process necessary to eliminate the "soap" taste from Ody's ceramic cup. I need to clean mine before Monday but don't have a lot of time to dig and research because I have my daughter for the weekend.

Any help will be MUCH appreciated.

Hi Jason, boiling the ceramic in milk for about 3 min. did it for me. Hope this helps.

I read a couple people broke their ceramic when removing it from the metal piece. Do guys think that this also works without removing it from the metal piece?

Guys, I am sorry that I was on holidays at the same time you got your Odysseus. I had to be here listening to your issues about broken ceramic parts and the smell on them. Both issues came from the same reason. Its the vaseline that I put outside of some of the ceramics to make them fit inside the metal piece. Broken ceramics were the result of the forse I put on them to make them fit inside the metal tube but it was something I couldnt see because the crack was invisible to my eye. So the smell and the cracked ceramics were the result of the same issue. Some ceramics were a tight fit, some others not. So some people didnt have that smell because I didnt put vaseline to their ceramics because they fit nicely on the metal part. China did its miracle again sending me ceramics with wrong tolerance.

I have already ordered new ceramics for people with broken ones. As for the issue with the smell, you can boil the ceramic with the metal part on it or put it in a gas that produce fire and smell of vaseline will leave.

trying milk is not a bad idea Nex. It will last only 5 mins. I dont know if it works but it worked for all people that they tried it.

Kleenite denture cleaner supposedly works very well also on the ceramic which makes sense considering it's designed to remove stains,odours and flavour from dentures and mouthguards.

I tried the efferdent denture cleaner in the ultrasonic cleaner for 30 minutes. Still have the soapy taste. It's not intolerable, though.

I haven't gotten around to boiling it yet, but so far the soapy taste has survived a 7 hour soak in PGA and an overnight soak in PG.

I've tried vinegar and baking soda then a water boil, didn't work. Then I tried water boil, soap and 409 with a tooth brush, milk boil, water boil and soapy taste greatly diminished but still there. I did not use soap or 409 on the ceramic for fear of it retaining some.

BTW I work in a machine shop and we mist cutting fluid, so maybe I'm just so used to it I don't taste it. But I doubt it!

I tried a little of all but the hydrogen peroxide bath. The boiled in milk finally killed the last of it for me. Just speculation but based on what Imeo said as to the lubrication that created it and the varying amounts used is likely why some are having success with lesser methods or duration than others.

I have to love Hrathors line about Everclear though!

I just ran my ceramic and the metal sleeve for it under a very hot tap for a few minutes and rubbed it a cotton bud/Q Tip. Soapy taste went away.. but then I had used it for 6 days before I did this and it was already fading...

I noticed the horrible soapy taste in mine when I first built it. Flashed back to my first experiences with the ce2's. Threw everything into my ultrasonic cleaner with some everclear. (I had already built one wick left it in there and soaked it too.) Let them soak overnight running the 480 second cycle whenever I remembered and pulled them out the next morning. Let everything sit on a papertowel and the everclear evaporated off. Reassembled when I got home from work and bam perfect taste and no more soap. Phew what a relief. Loving it now. Great flavor and works like a champ with 1.4ohm on 3.7v. BTW I got my ultrasonic cleaner real cheap from Amazon and is wonderful for cleaning atties and stuff. Dont throw the orings in there. I took mine off.
