I try to avoid the clone vs authentic discussions because I don't think that they're terribly productive. People are going to buy what they want to buy and they're going to provide their justification and others will disagree and the thread will devolve into name calling and moderated posts and there are plenty of those kind of threads already. My stance hasn't changed on what I prefer nor in my reluctance to to share my opinion or offer judgement. I know what I like and I vape for my own personal pleasure.

An interesting position. You do not have a specific public opinion about the heart of this subject, which is fine and well within your rights, but you none the less feel compelled to participate in this thread. No offence, but you don't happen to be involved with the political arena, do you? :)

Read the OP - I answered the question that was asked. I didn't think that this was the usual clone vs authentic thread where I needed to share my opinion on which I preferred, so I didn't.

Posted recently in the latest one, and it seems that majority of people simply don't understand artisan craft in today's day and age - cost:benefit, period.

I'll use a different example in this thread for variety - skateboard trucks (things wheels attach to, that makes the whole board turn). Long time ago, precision manufacturers emerged to create trucks that would respond predictably, every time, and be stronger and lighter than the average cast trucks. They were EXTRA pricey and aimed at the top of the pro market (of people with deep pockets, and current authentic legends of vape world). Over the years, several manufacturers found a way to create FAR more affordable precision trucks to target the meat of the populace, and their products became more popular and allowed them to grow due to a higher saturation of the market without significant loss in quality nor performance (Yiloong, Smoktech, etc). There were clones too, which were on-par with the cheapest no-name stuff from Fasttech.

At the end of the day, what would you buy? Something as good as the top-shelf in about every way for 1/4 the price; the top shelf; or the bottom of the barrel?

And here's the kicker - the more you sell, the more you help your business and your country's economy, especially if you begin to export. There's NOTHING wrong with outsourcing production, to your spec, to someone more qualified to do so as long as you yield a greater # sold and thus out in the market's hands because that grows you and your brand.

I'm glad you noticed that this wasn't the usual clone vs. authentic thread....

Just curious....I love the clone/ authentic threads. People get pretty "passionate" about what other people choose to spend their money on....its kinda crazy.

I was just curious if anyone ever changed their stance on buying or not buying clones after reading one of the thousands of angry debates about clones vs. authentics.

Nope, I haven't changed my stance. However, I will say that I am buying more authentic equipment lately, but that's more due to the fact that after vaping for a while, I'm getting more into a groove, and I know what I like.

My stance has remained steady since the beginning. I still don't care what you use.

Same here. I really don't care what adults do with their money. As long as it doesn't affect my paycheck, my house, or my pets, do what you will.

Interesting thread...

I used to be a very pro-authentic kind of person...

And most of that stance was due to grossly inferior clones being put on the market by the Chinese manufacturers. That was a couple of years back...

Looking at some of the clones out on the market today, the level of quality being put into the clones has gone up considerably, a lot of them (The true 1:1 Clones) are hard to tell the difference between the clone and the original.

I mean, right now I am vaping on an authentic Stingray X Black mod with a clone Dark Horse RDA. I've seen some bad knock off's on the dark horse, but this one is a dead ringer for the original.

I'm quite alright with people buying and using clones, especially when the authentic device is an extremely limited run and is sold out everywhere you look. What I don't want is for people to sell clones as authentics. When that day comes that people who buy clones that are so close to the original that only the most discerning eye could tell the difference and then turn around and try to sell them for the premium authentic prices, we'll all be in trouble.

But if you're gonna buy it and use it, and never try to sell it as anything other than a clone, well good on you! We aren't all made out of money, and making some of these premium devices available to the masses for far more reasonable prices I can only see as a good thing for the 99%'ers... :)

So yeah, my stance has changed over the years... But not necessarily due to any of the clone vs. authentic threads on the boards, but due to the excellent replicas available these days. Just leaps and bounds better than they were 3-4 years ago...

I'm with ktech....I generally buy authentic these days because I know what I like and I don't need everything that comes out, anymore. I went through lots of gear over the last couple of years. I've learned to research things a bit more thoroughly. I buy what I want because I want to....not because some elitist guilted me into it or because some clone collector made me feel stupid. I'm equally annoyed by the radical extremists on either side of the fence. I respect the folks that voice their opinions without passing judgment towards others.

I love clones because I don't like to pay more
I diy my juice instead of buying premade
my phone is a nexus bought from google as it is a better bang for the buck
I use generic meds instead of brand ones
I built my computer instead of buying a brand one
I never bought an expensive watch (I got one as a gift and didn't really liked it)
my coffee maker (aeropress) makes better coffee than the +$300 ones models at $30

I still don't understand why someone will pay $3000 for a handbag that doesn't improve your life more than a $100 one, but probably that is just me

in the end I don't like to pay more than I need to get the best outcome. that said I do sometimes pay a lot for stuff that does offer me a better experience.

It all boils down to where you see the value

They did make nice mods, with some of the finest machining and best threads I've seen but I honestly think they were inept at running their business and that contributed to their closing. The Strada was a PR debacle, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.

Wait a minute. Super-T did NOT go out of business. They made a business decision to stop making mods, because overall the other products they made gave them a better financial return. A completely sound business decision - focus on areas where you provide the most value, and leave your hobbies in the garage. (And a completely American, capitalist concept as well).

I suggest a new debate where we concentrate on the "think of the children" aspect.

"Clones vs. Authentic and The Children".

What would you say?
The think of the children aspect should go like this. Do I want my kids to smoke no. (If they do wich one does. She tried vaping didn't like it went back to smoking. )
But would I rather them vape or smoke. am I going to let my 10 yr old hit my vape hell no. And I going to tell my 2 16yr old girls or my 17 yr old they shouldn't smoke it's a bad habit even when I smoked a lot yes. Why because it's one of the hardest habits I have ever tried to kick.
