Still trying to figure out what the most reliable brand is. Keep reading about turnigy. Or whatever. But this is something I know very little
About. And there are loads of tests and different applications. What would we compare our use to. What would be an applicable analogy?

turnigy nano tech and gens ace were big sellers when i stopped buying. (right before i joined here)

i found them both lacking for my purposes, but they'd likely do quite fine for vaping.

keep in mind, i have a 4 or 5 pound RC truck that pulls a few horse power at about 180 amp peaks and wheelies it's way all the way up to 40 to 50 mph depending on gearing...

So. 1s2p. Is 1 series cell or the 2 as a whole and 2 parallel. And vice versa. And what we are looking for is something for longevity and power. So maybe a 3 cell pack is what your saying. 11 volts high end if needed. Or pushed with regulator for longevity.

Am I close?

I'd rather have the same voltage as we're used to, with more amp hours , providing it can handle 40a. If we do it that way we can forget the chip, which imo just adds cost, nothing else that you can't get without stepping up the cells.

well...

3V @ 100W is just over 30A (1S)

i think tom is looking for something to try out just on a mech for now. get a feel for it, etc. 1S would work great for that. he said something thicker would be nice. thicker than that 2p pack would be 3p (parallel).

but ultimately, i think 2S is what he's looking at for the chip he's looking at to take advantage of it's full capabilities. (7.4V nominal, 8.4V charged)

i think what we're looking for here is more along the lines of the right dimensions with a little over kill. figure twice the necessary continuous amp rating as a bare minimum.

1s2p would be 2 cells in parallel. (capacity adds... and with your C rating [that stays constant] would double your amp output... essentially doubling your watt output from one cell.)
2s1p would be 2 cells in series. (voltage adds... and with your C rating [that stays constant] would NOT double your amp output... essentially doubling your watt output from one cell with the same amperage.)

2s2p would be 2 cells in parallel wired in series to another 2 cells in parallel. each pair would be double the capacity and once the pairs are wired in series, you also double the voltage of a single cell. (4 cells total)

i've seen up to 8s2p in a single battery pack.

Your exactly right, I'm not all sold on the boards yet, and I'd love a mech setup with lipos. There's nothing to be concerned with in regards to safty. My understanding is that the lipos are in every way tougher so they should technically be safer, could be wrong?

they're more temperamental when it comes to over powered charging or over powered discharging of any sort.
they're in a pouch that can be punctured semi easily.

but they can output and take quite a bit more power than our traditional cells if you pick your specs right.

as far as safety, it's all in how you treat them. but as far as over powering your 20 amp packs vs not making a 40 amp lipo sweat, i'd take the higher capability option all day, every day.

Two things strike me: they need special chargers - whether that's $30 or $150 matters little. They hold a lot more power (close to my face) and i'm not sure that they safely handle much physical abuse - example - i drop the mod.

We all want ever more powerful batteries, but weighed up against the likely damage of what would happen if your atty developed a short?

well... in an mvp they're relatively safe from physical abuse. in a tmod, i wouldn't give it a second thought and i'd question the sanity of anyone who would.

the batteries we use now need specialty chargers... all of them... and one could actually remove the wires from the retracting arm and positive pad on those chargers, attach the connector relevant to the battery and charge a lipo (1s only) with that. it's when you get to several cells in series that you should balance charge them and need a charger for balancing or a cell balancer on the balance leads.

same care as stacking 18650s or running them in parallel. except they're charged in dedicated bays instead of as a pack, so we give it no thought, really.

this i will leave to each persons own judgement. me... i'm not worried about it. i let my kids play with massive packs. since they were 6 yrs old. they could teach this forum a thing or two about lipos. they're 8 and 10.

And i knew you'd have the information. I'm not too worried either since i test my coils to the point of paranoia, but i live in a world where the ratio of bad things happening increases the more confident one becomes.

I didn't even think about this until now. I could build a simple insert for our chargers, shaped like a cell with leads that would connect to a lipo. If we went with the right one 1s, I think, that may be cool.

squonks so easy! have had to adjust the way i hold the mod to compensate for the firm throw, easier to have my thumb knuckle on the button rather than tip like i do with reos
