Hemp, I've never tried twisting. Can you recommend a good, beginner's tutorial? Sounds like something I should learn how to do ...

LB, if you are like me and don't get along well with drills. There is a way to do a simple twisted wire without a drill. I found a video on yootube. It's hard to explain on here, but it involves a sharpie pen and a good set of pliers. You basically loop the wire thru the clip part of the sharpie, hold the other end taunt and twist till the wire snaps. Or, there is the more efficient power drill method [emoji6]

and I can not stress enough.... to take wire and imdiviually and spin it in your drill for a few seconds even if you are doing a single strand it straightens the wire and makes it way easier to work with been thinking seriously about getting a small metal break and requiring my sheet metal tools. i watched several videos this morning and I already see how to make a few of their steps easier. especially when it comes to flattening out twists and wire. might even throw some ni200 in the mix for super low resistance and super fast ramp up times. possibly to use with temp control ifin the situation arises

I'm hoping Youde (or some company) starts making pre-twisted ni200 (or Titanium) available for purchase. I just don't have the patience to do twisted or claptons or anything of that nature.

previous page I posted a quick and easy method to clap tons. literally takes 3 minutes, the video is 5 but they take time explaining

and twisting ni200 is a breeze you can straighten it with your fingers. best contact coil I have had to use with temp control is nichrom 80 26 gauge, and ni200 26 gauge twisted together then 7 wraps on 3 mm diameter, came out to .12 and reads correctly on temp control. no hot spots, takes like 3 weeks to gunk with a 70 vg/30 pg mix

VapeNW has the twisted wire from Youde. Double Twisted Kanthal A-1 - Wick & Wire - Rebuildable
They also have triple and quad twisted.

Doffy, in the future, here's a way I find works excellent :


I set the atty where I wanted the airholes to line up, then from below, I loosen the nut and turned the bottle cap (this also turns the ) 510 screw. Once it made contact with the atty, I then tightened the nut just enough that the copper contact didn’t move from side to side.

It's super easy and quick to do it this way.

So let's say I have two coils, one kanthal and one nichrome, both at .4 ohms. You're saying the nichrome will ramp up faster? It's my understanding that nichrome has less resistance per foot, which would make sense that they ramp up faster if you built two identical coils and didn't look at resistance. Just curious, I've looked into nichrome but haven't found a real reason to justify paying the extra couple dollars for a roll of it.

Sniper Gray single 18650 mech, rounded, exposed and smooth. Sounds pretty nasty.

i went the lazy way and picked up a couple pair of these. Easy to order off eBay and can get the exact wire combo you want (Kanthal/GPLAT, Nicrom). If they are all that I will try to make them.

yes JoeCarroll NiChrome is going to ramp up faster. if you have 2 identical coils, one Nichrome and one kanthal A1 the nichrome coils is going to read a bit lower than the kanthal. me personally, I prefer the nichrome for these reasons. and basically I opened up the diameter of my coils to compensate for the lower resistance.

Hemp, my question is, if the coils are the same resistance how will they compare in ramp up time? Obviously the nichrome will have more wraps to reach the same resistance of the kanthal. Based solely on resistance being the same am I still looking at faster ramp times?
