Clouds of vapor - why?

Just trolling for opinions here: While I'm 100% a "to each their own" type person, I was wondering why "insane vapor" is such a big selling point for one device/mod over another?

I've watched the videos and am finding myself drawn to getting those clouds too...but then I ask myself why that is? I'm using the KR808D, interchanging VL and Mist-Stix cartomizers, both giving good throat hit and respectable vapor, nearly the same as an analog--so what's the attraction to the vapor of a 501 or the mods I've seen reviewed?

I've noticed that the vapor isn't totally odorless--it's clearly not the stench of analogs, doesn't stick to clothes or skin like analogs, but I can definitely tell when I walk into a room I was vaping in. So if I break down and get a "cloud maker", am I just replacing one odor for another? Granted, chocolate or Red Bull is better than analogs, but still...

Also, vaping in public: right now I can pretty much vape anywhere, keeping it discreet and holding the inhale awhile so no vapor comes out--I get my fix after eating or while drinking without getting hassled. Also I'm pretty comfortable vaping in no smoking hotel rooms, trusting that it wouldn't be harmful to the next guest.

Does anyone take the 501/mods/cloud makers out into public (meaning in enclosed places)? Does the increase in vapor make vaping seem more like smoking to you, where the lack of vapor would make you switch devices, even if you're getting the nic fix and it's helped you stay off analogs?

I guess I'm trying to figure what my own attraction is by listening to what others think and whether the lack of intense vapor production reduces your enjoyment of the experience?

Stick around. You'll read a lot of new members that will say that they tried gum, patches, Chantix and none of those worked even though the first two impart nicotine to the bloodstream. I figure the vapor is likely 50% or more of the habit or say 30% hand/mouth habit and 30% vapor, 40% nicotine.... I'm guessing on the percentages but evidently, a lot of people here have had to have all three. Why? That's a book.

I have wondered the same thing. I myself get enough vapor from my 901 to "feel" like a normal analog. That is all I'm looking for out of my e-cig. To be as close to the feel of a normal analog.
I did get more vapor once. And choked. It was to harsh and painful and IMO wasn't worth the extra effort.
But I am also not completely satisfied yet either. But this is a post I'll be making shortly for some insight.

I've got 2 replies for ya. Both are based on my opinion of course.

1) The vapor fills some of the "hobby" aspect of smoking. While I was never into smoke rings, blowing smoke is the "cool" part of smoking. The vapor is also comforting to me and makes me "feel" like I'm smoking. I wish my PV would run a little trail of vapor when I'm not puffing it.

I enjoy the smell of cigarette smoke while its in smoke form. Once it settles onto things not so much.

2) "clouds of vapor" was a good selling point for me when I got a 510 over other models such as the 901. In my mind more vapor means more powerful. Faster acting, more flavor and so on.

PVs are under powered compared to cigarettes. (As I expected) I'd prefer to take a shorter lighter draw.

I think it comes down to personal preference. I prefer the large amounts of vapor production but I can also understand why some wouldn't. I know that some liquids tend to linger in the air longer than others which is also a personal preference once again.

This is the first time I've heard that. I sit in the middle of an office puffing out clouds all day, and then come home and hit my 510 all evening next to the non-smoker wife with allergies to everything under the sun. No one has been able to smell it so far.

Very much so, yes. I'm pretty much exclusively 510 (at least for the time being) and when I get my chuck in I'll be using that instead of the normal batts.

Blowing out significant amounts of vapor has been a crucial part of the experience for me and everyone I've met. It's relaxing, makes it appear more like smoking, and is one of the big reasons why a PV will work where gum/patches/etc fail. I guess specifically for the act of stealth vaping it'd apply, but generally no one wants less vapor.

the history of these things is they didnt produce enough vapour in a reliable consistent way.. an e cig is just like a real cig.. vapour is just like smoke.. a person needs "enough" and needs it in a reliable way..

when a reviewer blows out clouds of smoke they are just saying this device works as opposed to not works... a wimpy e cig is just like smoking a real cig with a hole in the side.. not very satisfying..

but just because the reviewer exaggerates the vapour as much as possible dont mean eveyone needs that amount every time.. but it does at least mean the device works... not so long back many of them didnt..

if e cigs have change it is the newer ones are set up to produce more vapour than the older ones.. ruyan used the word discrete.. which meant minimal visible vapour.. this was part an excuse for wimpy e cigs and part logical.. clouds of vapour will piss off none smokers.. ruyan knew this..

this still applies in public places.. a little discretion make good sense..

ps.. there is a downside to more vapour.. it needs more battery power and hits the battery life.. e cigs are a compromise between battery life and vapour production.. the trend has gone against battery life and edged towards more vapour.. this thread kind of makes it obvious why..

Vapor doesn't taste or feel quite like smoke, so visible clouds of vapor provides tangible feedback that the unit you bought really is working.

Plus, throat hit, flavor, nicotine hit, etc., don't really show up on video very well. So video reviews tend to emphasize the visual aspect.

P.S. I don't know where to get it, but I recall reading that there's a company that makes e-liquid specially designed for "stealth vaping," like on a plane, where plumes of smoke-looking stuff would be inappropriate. And of course if you hold it in and then blow it down your shirt there won't be much visible vapor no matter what you're using.

The several times that I quit analogs cold turkey taught me that I could beat the nicotine adiction very easily. I could go weeks/months without a cigarette and really had no problem beating the nic withdawl. what always brought me back was the behavioural addiction. I just liked the act of smoking. Pulling it in - blowing it out - holding it.

I used to "smoke" a hollowed out Bic pen when I'd quit and it really helped. But I missed the smoke.

Once I got my first 510 the analogs went in the trash and I've has ZERO desire to ever go back. My behavioural need is totally met with e cigs. I started at 18mg and have migrated to 6. I'll be at zero in another month. Like I said, the nic isn't what I crave or will miss at all. I also HATED the smell of cigarettes - on me, on my clothes, etc etc. When someone walks by me that has just had a smoke it's like YUK. I actually get where non-smokers have been coming from.

Getting back on topic, the vapor is what does it for me. Seems like the odd time that I get a weak hit, I'm really disappointed (like when my Janty Stick switch doesn't work!). I love a good cloud and get that behavioural kick when it happens.

As far as I'm concerned e cigs have been a life saver for me!

Probably no surprise to those that have read my post but I take mine in public all the time even with the Magnum mod attached for that sweet hv vape. I never have had ANY issues with people showing their asses over it or the vapor it produces. The cloud is pretty much odorless especially when compared to tobacco smoke and it dissipates a lot faster than cigarette smoke as well.

The only comments I have gotten from people is asking what it was and once I told them the next comment is where can they get one. I swear to god next month I am buying about 6 kits from China to carry around in my car, I could sell 2 every time I leave my house.

I use a 901, a VP1 and a Vapor king passthru. They all provide more then enough vapor, sometimes more then I need.
I don't need a throat hit or high nic..just a feeling of being satisfied with the draw and vapor.

I'm a little different than others in this thread it seems. I couldn't care less about my PVs feeling like cigarettes. I like more vapor for the simple reason of liking more vapor. It is more enjoyable when I can blow out a huge cloud. Plus, there is more vapor to play with and I just like the way it looks.

I'm shocked that you say you can smell rooms that you were vaping in. The vapor absolutely has an odor but not for any longer than you can see it. I've never had anybody say "what's that smell!?".

For me, if I'm not getting a lot of vapor, I'm not enjoying it. I need vapor and throat hit and I'm set.

Absolutely...as a smoker (well, ex smoker now), in order to replace cigs with vaping, I needed the same sort of deal...nicotine, throat hit and vapor, it's visually satisfying for me to bellow out a ton of vapor after a satisfying drag on my Titan.

Good point Mary Kay. I think that's the case with many people here. Not all, and likely not the majority, but many.

I've always been a smoke-ring guy. I have a completely subconscious tick that causes me to blow smoke rings on a regular basis. And if my analog replacement doesn't/wouldn't allow me to satisfy that "tick", then it wouldn't be a reasonable substitute or solution for me.

I have been analog free for 19 days now. I gave them up as soon as my 510 arrived in the mail. After the learning curve with mixing, etc., I am totally pleased with the huge amounts of vapor I can make. For me, smoking has always been approx. 95% visual (exhaling vapor). I beat the nicotine addiction a few years ago and kept it away for 5 yrs., but started again only due to the need to blow smoke!!! I realize it is mostly mental for me, but still, to each his/her own. In any case, yes, I'm still addicted to nicotine.........which, from what I have been reading, is not necessarily a bad thing. Years ago, when I stopped analogs my personal Physician quoted to me that Nicotine is a fantastic drug.... a wonderful drug, even. It's just the delivery system(s) that suck. So, for now, I feel as though I have stepped up to nothing short of heaven on earth. I anticipate the day when the e-cigarettes are declared to be safe, when used correctly of course.
