Cloupor mini caught fire

So I'm new to the vape world. Been smoking for 15 years! Last week I decided to quit (I've had 2 smokes in 8 days!) and I bought a cloupor mini. Love it! Except, when I got it, it wouldn't charge. I left it plugged in for like 10 hours, and nothing. So I took it back and found out that you can only use a 1amp charger on these things. Which is fine. But that being said, it literally takes 8 hours to get a full charge from a dead battery!
That being said, I was using it yesterday as it was charging (it has pass through, so use while charging is an option, and it had only been charging for 3-4 mins at the time through a wall outlet-they say not to use the computer for charging), and as I'm taking a hit, all of a sudden I look and see smoke coming out of the USB port and my screen said too hot....so I pulled the charger out and took the battery door off only to find a small fire inside my device...had to run it under water to put it out...yjeu exchanged it no problem, but everyone is saying that they have never seen this issue on this device...does anyone have any advice on the best way to handle the batteries and charges so that I can avoid this from happening again and possibly charge faster? Also, any and all advice appreciated!

I don't have the Clouper mini, but I have an iPV mini which does have the passthrough. However, I'm of the opinion to have multiple batteries and a DEDICATED battery charger.... It's only a rare pinch that I'd consider vaping that while charging.... I have probably 10 different batteries and a 4-port Nicore Intellicharger so I always have a fresh battery at hand (and yes, even on the Intellicharger, it can take a few hours to charge, but with spares, I'm never out )

What kind of battery were you using? What ohms for your topper and what settings? If you haven't had the chance yet, PLEASE read through E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs as he discusses battery safety and Ohm's Law....

Some of the early Cloupor and Hotcig (another brand) Hana Modz clones had this problem where the chip catches on fire.

I've enjoyed my Cloupor Hana clone, but I waited until version three, which still has some kinks but spontaneous ignition seems to have been addressed.

If you're an early adapter of some of these devices, you're kind of rolling the dice.

Hi Qttash and welcome aboard!

I second DingerCPA's advice about having a dedicated charger and spare batteries. A good charger is also recommended. Two that come to mind are Nitecore and Xtar chargers.

I'm also with DingerCPA in that I use the charging port only when necessary and only use it as a passthrough ONLY when completely desperate for a vape or two. On the devices I have that have passthrough capability, I've noticed that the battery gets very slightly warm when just charging, but gets warmer if I use the passthrough option, so it's safer and better for the battery to not use passthrough, but it's there if you need a draw or two while charging.

You did make sure to install the batter's in the right direction ? I'm not sure which battery's you bought but I will leave you a remedy.

The good thing is your doing good the bad thing is if that ever happen to me I would not ever vape again lol. I hope all cloupor mini owner see this. All I and say is Rsunderl is on point. I could see that if you are vape your life away on pass through. But what if you didn't? So then it has to be the battery or charger. As many of you know already battery and charger is the most important part of you mod. I take great pride in to investing on it. But like I say glad that you are ok. Update us more if you ever get ahold of "Cloupor".

First, you get the right charge cable with this.
Second the 1a claim is incorrect. USB is only .5a (+/- 5%) normally

My charger will charge a 2500mah battery in under 4 hrs. @750ma.

Notice the Burn is in the Main Board, not the Charging board. This is a Board defect. starting to look like a boarder line part being used in the circuitry that fails on some units.

Failure could also be from attempting to Vape on a device with a low quality, low amperage or exhausted battery.
Many reasons a unit can fail and many have done just that.(not just Cloupors)

Holy smokes!!!!! I'm so glad your ok. I have not heard of this. I have a Hana mini dna40 it has a 1800mah lipo battery and I also has the pass through option I do use it quite frequently enough and has never had that happen. My guess would be that something is shorting on the sub charging module I don't think it was the battery. Sometimes boards melt down as I have heard of this although not related to charging board someone put a battery in backward on a dna40 and the reverse polarity didn't work out and it caught Fire. I don't think these fires are our faults it just says that things can be faulty even if brand new. So we all just have to pay super attention to out mods and tanks and battery's and charging at all times this can happen to any of us

That really stinks, sorry to hear that. While I understand what members are saying about using a dedicated charger, it defeats the purpose of USB charging. All my mods have USB pass through and I've yet to remove a battery to charge. I have multiple batteries and thus don't vape while charging. I also power the devices off while charging and don't leave them unattended. For some devices, manufactures state not to vape while charging (don't know about the CMini as I don't own one).

You can use a USB charger that's rated higher than 1A as it will step down based on what the mod can accept. I use a 2-port Anker USB charger with Monoprice Premium MicroUSB cables and haven't had an issue with any of my devices.

First of all I am Glad that you are OK.

This is why Many of Us here tell people to Never Charge e-Cigarettes of Batteries Unattended. Think if this had happened while you were Out running errands? Or while you were Asleep?

I got a feeling this might be attributed to using a 2.1A charger; assuming the Cloupor cannot regulate input properly. Back years ago, this didn't really matter because nothing really used a 2.1A charger, but these days with big phones, tablets, etc, it is becoming more commonplace to see these chargers out there.

MicroUSB is becoming fragmented within itself these days which is an annoyance.

Damn glad you're okay. I recently just received my cloupor mini also and I didn't use the pass through feature but did charged it on my computer as I didn't have a 18650 battery charger and I noticed it did get really warm. . Now what ima just do is have 2 batteries so when one dies I'll just Pop in the other one.

what was the ohms of the atty you were using??... Im interested in knowing weather or not a low ohm coil may have been part of the issue....

Glad your ok! As a safety precaution though, I would not suggest putting out electrical fires with water. Granted i only have experience with them at 120 volt coming from a house so i am not sure exactly how dangerous it would be in a smaller application such as this. But the general rule of thumb is to smother chemical and electrical fires.

This has grabbed my attention as I just got two of these and charge via usb... Maybe I should invest in a 4 bay nitecore... I am running authentic LG HE2s and Sony VTC 4s...

I'm waiting for someone to take a VaporShark that has cordless charging and attach an ego adapter and ego charger to it....It would be realistic that someone would try it if they were away from the charging base and a friend said, I have this and it should work. I wonder what would happen.....maybe nothing.....but....

Lithium batts should NEVER be put out with moisture, ie. water or even the foam in fire extinguishers. It reacts to water. You have to use VERY dry sand or salt, and enough to "bury it".

I wonder how many thousands of vapers are tossing batts into the garbage, without even properly discharging them.......seems like that would put a lot of sorters and sanitation workers at risk????
