Co-worker.......

Hey everyone, i've noticed a few people post on the forum about having issues with vaping while at work, and now i have a story of my own to share! haha. So, where i work there is a small group of employees (under 10 of us). When i started myself and one other person were smokers. Now, I've quit (bought my last pack Oct 26th this year!), and switched over to vaping. When i was in the process of switching over, he was was the biggest critic saying "you won't quit", "good luck with your pretend cigarette" etc. I've now had some success with it, and he's still smoking. Now all of a sudden the smell of the juice in my PV (i dont vape inside, so this is soley the juice in the tank) is overwhelming and bothering him. I never complan when he comes in smelling like an ashtray, even when I first started quitting. I dealt with it knowing i can't avoid the smell of cigarettes the rest of my life. So im starting to thinks its jealousy. He constantly says he wants to quit and doesnt bother trying. Thoughts? and has anyone else experienced a bit of hostility from people around you that smoke?

your co-worker is full of it.
if one cant smell the tobacco in his pack,he can't
smell the juice in your PV unless your using some
kind of bleach, ammonia or pine sol based flavor.
leave an open bottle of cologne around your work area.
when he complains just say oh,you must mean this bottle.
when he objects,"gotchya"
regards
mike

LOL, how about:

Co-worker: That pretend cigarette sure smells nasty!

You: Actually, I've been meaning to tell you but have been embarrassed to bring it up, but since you mentioned it again, it's not my pretend cigarette it's either your upper lip or your breath, you need to see your dentist to find out what's wrong. In the meantime, I bought you some Tic Tacs.

Be grateful it's just your coworker and not someone you are married to. The latter is me. He's a smoker and has said and done everything your co-worker has done. We have come to an agreement where I only use one room of the house to vape as I refuse to go outside to do it in my own home.

He always talks about the additional chemicals, etc. and says he won't switch to vaping because he doesn't want to replace one crutch for another. He says he just wants to quit outright. If that were true, it would be fine, but I know it will never happen - he's been saying that for years.

If a SMOKER told me that my vape stinks, I'd be FORCED to inform him that his FILTHY ASHTRAY REEK had been bothering me for a long time, but I had been polite enough not to mention it. And then everytime he walked by, I'd very ostentatiously hold my nose and fan the air, while asking him if he had lung cancer yet -- or if he was one of those self-inflicted cue balls, asking him how his chemotherapy was going.

You do realize this is politics, not health related.

Your coworker is racked with self-loathing, and like a cornered animal, s/he is lashing out and trying to establish a pecking order. It's not about hating your vape - it's about rationalizing their smoking.

absolutely :thumb:
Why not just tell the co-worker that he is lying through his teeth?

Before I retired, I had an annoying co-worker who had bummed countless cigarettes before I quit smoking and started vaping ...

One day, in frustration, he actually claimed that the "fumes" from my vaporizer were causing him to have stomach cramps ...

This was demonstrated with very dramatic groaning and grasping of the abdomen, even more amusing than fake coughing ...

When people desperately need to be offended, they can be very creative ...

Yah it probably is a jealousy thing. At work we have a covered patio outside for a smoking area. When I started vaping over a year ago I was one of the first. Since then alot of smokers have taken interest and have converted. Still there is always the smoker who makes comments. Here is the usual list. "Since children are drinking it and dying it cant be good for us." "you dont know whats in it". "They are trying to ban that."

To me it is just a sign of their ignorance in my opinion. It justs blows my mind how little research people actually do with this new invention called the internet at their fingertips. Guess they think its just for Facebook and porn!

Geez, ain't it the truth. When I've mentioned the fact that I cannot exist without a fast internet connection, they get this knowing look and ask me why. When I say, "so I can look up the answer to virtually any question at any time," they just look puzzled. Or the question on their lips constantly, "How'd you know that?" It's like having one of those golden eggs the goose laid and using it for a paperweight!

to be honest, since I quit smoking with the vape ... I actually feel quite sorry for the smokers now.

I bet 90% of them would really like to quit smoking.

I feel that way too, sort of "evangelical" to bring them all the "good news" about vaping. :D And I do think it's true that most smokers really would like to quit, for a variety of good reasons, if they knew it was really possible to do it without suffering. But there's always gonna be that 10%.

I've had a few coworkers who had distain for vaping and who said they were going to quit, rather than use a "pacifier".

I suggested that they use vaping as a quit smoking tool, in the same way they think of gum or patches. To their credit, more than half of them did... and all of those people are still vaping up to a year after trying it.

The other half who didn't try vaping? Still smoking to a person. But, and here's the glimmer of hope, they're not making comments any more. I'm just waiting for the opportune moment to approach them again about vaping (or rather, waiting for them to show just a moment of interest, and I'll be in).
