Coffee Extractions?

I was at the Colorado vape meet last night and was told that there was a section of ECF dedicated to extractions, so here I am! I have read a chunk of the threads here and found a lot of neat tips on tobacco extractions, however I am very interested in doing my own coffee extractions.

With absolutely no extraction experience, but a ton of DIY experience, I tried this once and it didn't work. I crushed up a couple of coffee beans and put them in a 10 ml bottle with a basic 70/30 PG/VG sweet mix and just let it soak. After a day, I opened it and smelled it... nothing. After a few more days, I got a bit of a coffee smell, but not much. I ended up just letting it sit for about a month total, tried vaping it and it tasted like nothing.

I have thought about just brewing 1 cup of coffee through my coffee maker with just straight PG (and deep cleaning the coffee maker afterwards), but something is telling me this is a bad idea.

Any suggestions? I really don't drink much coffee, but I love the flavor of coffee vapes and I want to extract my own! I am also on a budget and don't want to waste too much in supplies doing my experiments. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

NO idea of how this is done, but here is what I would try. I'd grind up some REALLY good coffee super fine, then pack it as firmly as possible into a 10ml syringe, about halfway deep. Next, I'd put some everclear (I have access to a little pure Ethanol) into the syringe and put the plunger in to force the alcohol through and squeeze out all the coffee goodness I could. Then I'd filter it through a 5 micron filter bag to remove the fine solids. Then I'd leave it out to allow most of the alcohol and water (Everclear is 5% water) to evaporate. No burnt taste like a hot water extraction or boil off.

I've been contemplating coffee too. I'm worried about boiling and burning it though. Burnt coffee sucks
I'm going to try some very finely ground beans with water, pg, and vg at very low heat over a half hour just like I do my tobacco. Been meaning to do this for awhile now just crazy busy lately.
I'm going to try cocoa too this way.
I'll let you know what happens. :)

Cant remember who originally posted this but I copied it to some of my notes a while back and have been meaning to try it.

"I learned this from a friend: Fill 1/2 of a 30 ml bottle of ground coffee. I used Cuban coffee because it's really strong.. Then top it off with PG and microwave for 10 seconds. (no longer). The Pg will absorb the coffee. Then top off again with pg, then place bottle in a hot water bath for 20 minutes. Strain mixture with a coffee filter. I used a funnel, and cut the filter to fit.

I used 3% coffee, 1% Bavarian Cream and 1% Caramel and It was the best Coffee liquid I ever had. "

OK, I just tried this... Only I filled my 30ml bottle about 3/4 full of finely ground coffee because I wanted it to be super strong. I kept having to add PG as it absorbed. Microwave for 10 seconds (it was pretty warm after that) and I brought a small pot of water to almost a boil and pulled it off the heat. I let the bottle soak for 20 minutes and I squeezed the coffee goo into a filter, sitting in a sieve on top of a measuring cup. I ended up having to squeeze the crap out of the filter to get as much of the mixture out as possible, but it ended up yielding about 15ml of coffee PG. I got some on my hands and tasted it... pretty strong! I'm about to try making some juice with it. Wish me luck :)

That's post #7 in this thread, which goes on to discuss this topic at length:

I found it to be pretty tasty on my third try, but I don't know of any way to filter it well enough to keep it from choking out a coil in a day or two.

I make coffee extractions. The person in the post above was talking about me :)

Take a 30 ml glass bottle. Fill it 1/2 way with coffee grounds and 1/2 way with PG.
Nuke in the microwave on hi for 10 seconds but, no longer. The PG will have been absorbed by the coffee grounds at this point.
Refill bottle to top with PG
Fill a coffee cup with hot water.
Place bottle containing mixture in the coffee cup of hot water
Let sit for about 30 minutes
Using a paper coffee filter, strain mixture through the filter into a cup ( I use a chip clip to keep filter in place
Let the mixture sit in the paper filter for about an hour or 2 while the liquid drains into the cup
Transfer the liquid to a bottle for storage.

There you have it. I use 3-5% of the extracted flavor to make my ejuice and it will taste just like the coffee. I love experimenting with different flavored coffee using this method.

Good luck!

ETA- This also works with tea :)

Tried this with Greek coffee (super finely ground coffee dust). When you brew this, you don't filter it, you just let the "grounds" sit on the bottom of the cup and drink it.

The Greek coffee + VG came out of the filter super black and thick. Someone in one of these coffee threads said their extraction was clear. I guess I should reduce the amount of coffee, up the VG and let everything sit longer so it might come out more clear. I'll also try filtering this super black extraction a couple times to see if it clears. It smells super good and I may just upgrade my coffee with it tomorrow...

I suggest trying Greek coffee, it's low on acid, has high surface area to extract, but I think you might want to try a 10:90 coffee:VG ratio to make it more clear.

How does the vape taste with 100% of this extract? can't we just dilute with pg or vg to make it more clear?

I've never done any flavor extractions of any sort, so this is just speculation on my part, but there's a process called "racking" that wine makers use to get rid of sediment that might work with your extra-fine "coffee dust." Basically, it's just a process of letting the very fine particulate matter that gets through the filter settle to the bottom of the bottle and then siphoning the clear liquid off the top. Undiluted, your extract may be too thick to allow any settling, but it might work with just a little dilution, which would give you a cleaner, clearer liquid without having to totally dilute your extract.

I'm going to try the SalemGold method but with a couple changes. I want to use unground whole beans. I'm trying to avoid breaking down the oil in the coffee. Also i'll use a ultrasonic rather than a hot bath. The water in the ultrasonic will heat on its own. I just made two mixtures, one ground and one whole. the whole bean mixture has a better aroma.
