Coil building and Ohm reading Beginner

I am building coils for my AGA T2 but I can't seem to get an ohm reading above 1 no matter how many/few wraps or whichever guage kanthal I am using 28/30/32. I am testing with a multimeter and deducting the res of the leads from the display #. Testing from the negative screw head and the bottom of the positive post. I am pretty sure the ss wick is not touching the bottom of the tank and the insulating rubbers appear to be doing their job.
I am closely following you tube instruction videos.

Funnily enough when I test pieces of kanthal of different lengths from off the spool I get different readings. ie increased ohm for longer length.

It's driving me bats$$t. Any suggestions

ok heres what you want to do first. test the resistance before you insert your wick, then test again after you inserted your wick. it should be the same both times if not then you wick is adding resistance or grounding out your wick, which means its not properly oxidized or you wrapped to tightly. its easier to build the coil and slide the wick in then wrapping around the wick like in many youtube vids.

as far as lenght to use you can meter it before hand and make sure its .5 or so above what you want as you will want to cut the pieces that stick out past the negative screw and positive post. also make sure your coils aren't touching and the bottom one does lift off the base coming out of the negative screw as touching the deck can cut resistance as well.

hope this helps you out, the aga-t2 was a pain in the .... for me starting, but once I figured it out I loved it

;)Thanks for the info deleon. I'm going to have to get an imperial sized drill bit I think. It appears the wick hole on the AGA is not a metric size. I'll pick one up later today and give it a crack.:toast:
