I have been having trouble with my coils. Only on my DID and clones but not on my phoenix types. After about a day or two the wire is just messed up. If I try to clean it off or mess with the wrap it breaks very easily. It gets a lot of carbon built up on it and my juice gets pretty discolored but I'm not running it very high. About 3.3v at 2.7-3.2 ohms (usually closer to 3 either way) and I'm using 34 awg Kanthal A-1 (I'm almost positive it's 34 but there is a small possibility it's 32).

Is this normal? Most people say their wick and coil last around a week. My wick lasts but the coil is trash and, even if the coil and wick were fine, my juice gets that bad flavor (like when it gets discolored from the heat) and the wick retains all the bad stuff so I have to burn it off every day or two also.

The reason that the gunk is building up on the coil is because of the low voltage. 3.3 volts at 3 ohms sounds way to low...you should be vaping it around 4.5 to 5 volts. At such a low voltage the liquid isn't being vaporized efficiently and is sticking to your wick and coil. Try upping the voltage and see if it makes a difference.

Are you sure your not having some wicking issues with the particular juice you like? I am pretty sure you are...3volts at 3ohms is super low. One way to find out is to get a good dripping atomizer like the HH357 and see if you can raise the voltage without getting any burnt taste. If you can then you know something is off with your wick and if you can't.... get rid of the juice. I used a particular juice for a while and it would kill my attys in days.....got rid of the juice my attys went back to lasting a month. Some juices are atty killers plain and simple.

one thing that you should try with the did not sure about the dud is some lower resistant wire. if you get a chance get some 28 or 30 g wire. with this you can stay at the lower volts for your juice. you will get much better flavor and vapor with lower resistances on those devices. 28 g with a 4 wrap @ 1.0 ohms and 3.2 to 3.7 volts, it doesnt get much better than that. that is my set-up on my provari.

This. Try a lower gauge of kanthal and pretty sure you will see improvement in the longevity of your coil.

Out of curiosity, where could one find some 28g kanthal?

I've been trying to find it forever. The only roll I ever saw of it was monstrous and some guy bought it in bulk. If anyone knows I'd be interested also as I've wanted 28g for a while now

Plenty available on ebay right now.

Sweet. I checked a couple weeks ago and there wasn't anything. Glad to see some shows up sometimes. I even checked the completed listings and could only find a couple and they weren't even those spools.

It all about the Watts....your wattage is too low for normal vaping....you can increase it by increasing you volts or by decreasing your ohms(using lower resistance coil). The whole point of a provari is that it is way easier to control the volts than the ohms. If you go to a 28awg kanthal you will be forced to keep the volts low at 3v but your wattage will be like vaping your current set up at 5volts....you will definitely have burnt taste. Either your juice is no good or your set up is no good...if you can vape your juice on other attys at higher volts then the problem is your set up. If not the juice is the culprit.

Oh it's the juice for sure. I've always gone through an atty a week. Problem is I don't really like anything else for my all day vape. I don't really know how to fix this
