If you went from 0.5 Ohm 25 awg to 0.8 Ohm 25 awg by adding more wraps AND lowered watts your being counter productive. You need much higher watts on 7 wrap 25 awg 0.8 ohm to get the same heat as 5 wrap 25 awg 0.5 ohm and your increasing your surface area. You would be better off using 5 wraps at even lower watts but same mw/mm2 then 7 wraps. 0.1mm less surface area.

That was just another example I'm sure you did it by switching from 25awg to 26awg. That would give you the same heat at lower watts with 0.05mm less surface area per wrap.
