Was a tool junky all my life, and bought tools I didn't use sometimes. Has not been any different since I got into vaping, have bought a lot, have bought what turned out to be not needed or useless for me.

I'm from the other side of the fence on this coiling gizmo. Bought one way back when because of all the hype, tried it out, it makes good coils but I have never used it since. To me anyway too much ado about nothing and a waste of the $18-$20 shipped it cost. Probably because I have been making coils for so long with simple forms that work perfect for me. Things found around the house, in the shop, like drill bits, hex wrenches, micro screw drivers, luberlock needles, even toothpicks, etc... some in pin vises, some not. Can have a coil made in the time it takes to set this coiler up, and with only one of the forms included with it a size I'd make micro coils with anyway it's use is pretty limited. I don't live with just one small diameter size of micro coils.

Have other vape related tools that did not pan out too though. Like $40 for a carto punch I punched maybe 2 carto's with because I stopped using carto's right after I bought it and a bunch of carto's... went with RTA's instead. And for the RTA's, eBarons, at almost $100 the Zapper V2 didn't see much use. Makes excellent ready wires, but I made a few wires with it and have not used it since. Also still almost all of the ready wires I had bought before it from Stormy's. They just don't need to be changed out very often. I don't use carto tanks anymore so also not the RTA's, or the Zapper. Bought, set up a DIY lab well over a year ago and have not used it since last fall. The list goes on...

Went to Michaels and got my gizmo today. I had to ask for help finding it. The person that helped me flat asked me if I was getting it for an ecig? I said as a matter of fact, it is. He said he knew it because he ordered his online. We talked about gear for a few and discovered he was a member here. I invited him for a visit in Reoville. :)

Nice!

Funny, life's coincidences.

I just got off the phone with a Michaels where I'm staying in AZ to have them put one aside for me. I went in to the same store yesterday and was told "sir, I don't think you know what you're talking about", so I sourced it online, phoned them back with the inventory item number. While on the phone, the woman on the phone cupped her hand over the receiver and asked "is this for, you know, like... e cigs? A guy came in about a month ago wanting one for his e cigs". I paused. "What if it was?", I asked tentatively. "Do they work... the e cigs?", she wondered.

I promised to give her a demonstration and some info/links when I go pick the gizmo up.

Okay - picked up my coil gizmo from Michaels per the post above.

The woman I talked to on the phone cam rushing over with 2 friends in tow. The four of us went outside and I proceeded to show them my grand/RM3, how it worked, and why I needed the coil gizmo. I took a couple of extra drip tips with me so everybody could have a go (and yes, they were all smokers looking to quit, BTW).

Skepticism gave way to uncertainty which evaporated with the plumes of vanilla they produced. "This... this thing is magic", one said. "That isn't like any of those disposable ones my husband tried. This is gooooooood", claimed another. "Did you make this?", asked my original contact (I blushed and explained I was not the wizard, but that he did exist and that the device bears his initials. I also explained that I did make the coils... she was, sadly, less impressed).

After about 15 mins (the wife was honking the car horn), I gave them a handout with Rob's contact info, the web address for this forum, and some other info along with an explanation of the world of vaping (ego's, clearos, etc., so they didn't jump into too deep an end unknowingly).

I got back to the car with the wife saying "You love that ...., don't you". Yes, my love. Yes I do.

Has anyone figured out a better / faster way to clamp a wire quickly for coiling? A wingnut works but it's kind of complicated to fit the wire between two washers and hold it all together while screwing down the wingnut. Also the release isn't ideal.

I'm thinking about designing / creating a 3D printed coiling gizmo that can take a short piece of piano wire or any kind of steel bit to create a coil.

I use mine all the time. I only use the 2nd smallest rod, I think it's 1.4 or 1.5mm. Works perfectly for threading 2mm RxW. Does anyone know what we can use that's a little larger, but less than the 3mm size?
I wish the gizmo had an 1/8" and a 7/64" rods to use with 3mm RxW. I can wrap on a drill bit but I could wrap a much tighter coil on the Gizmo with the right sized rods.
