Coil I.D. too small?

I understand a lot has been discovered in the past year I have been out of vaping news and I want to take care of existing issues before moving into new territory. I have been tooting along well with my REO and RM2 but have noticed flavor isn't always where I want it. I have been using kanthal 28 gauge coils wrapped to .8 ohms. I wrap around a 1mm needle and this give me according to my multimeter .11 ohms per wrap.

I had been using this as a dragon coil like set up because those were all the rage when I left and they were easy though over the past few weeks I have been wicking with cotton though the coil which leads to better flavor but produces a problem, over the course of a few days though I never get a dry hit my flavor nosedives I then find that the cotton inside the coil has been toasted ever so slightly.

I am thinking this is either the coils being too small of an I.D. or perhaps the cotton being too tight. Any suggestions?

I can post pics of my current coil build (which is a bit different dual 12 wrap coils to see how that changes.) when I get a chance.

Sounds too tight for a Wick-Inside-Coil to me. I mean: Yes, that ID is a bit on the small side. Not enough excess thermal insulation (wick not directly touching coil) to keep what little bit of cotton you have in there from wearing itself out real quick on account of all those substantially violent swings between CoolWet and HotDry.

For a cotton through I think that's too small. Try something about 1.6mm or 1/16th inch and see what you think.

Edit: Another option might be to just replace your wick more frequently. Lots of folks go several days but some of us have to rewick more often. I usually rewick once a day whether I need to or not lol.

For a while now I've been using the little screw drivers that come with RBA's. They're equal to 2.4mm and that is my tried and true ID of all coils I build now. Really easy to get the cotton through them. Holds more juice, and I get awesome flavor. They do get a little burnt but that's usually only if I don't drip when I should.

I use larger than average coils so my max vg wicks well. They're around 2.7mm. Can't imagine a 1mm coil. Going at least a little bigger will have to help. With the same wire and shooting for the same resistance, opening it up will also make it shorter. This will reduce heat concentration, allow for more wick in the coil which also means more juice in there and shorter coils are easier to keep fed with juice.
