Coil ohm

I made my first pro tank micro coil today I used 32 A1 kanthal twisted with 3 strands...it was great at 1.5 ohm. but after I put juice on it it went down to 1.0.I don't want to use this in my pro tank with the ego t 1100 battery. I will have to wait on my mod for that coil. But my question is why did it drop like that?I mean I checked it after the build and after wicking it with cotton it just dropped after I put the juce on.

The resistance of the coil comes from the electricity going through the length of wire. The resistance will be the same for a straight piece or a coiled piece. If there is a short, in the coil or the coil touching some part of the atty, the electricity can take a short cut and not go through all the wire. This is just like shortening the length of wire which will lower the resistance.

I am not really a builder so I am not sure what could cause your problem. If possible have someone who has built some coils take a look at yours.

This is a great teaching moment. If you built a coil at .5 ohms and it went down to .3 ohms while you were using it on a mechanical mod it might hurt your batteries or you.

From .5 to .3 isn't too big of a deal. If you can build a .5 safely, you more than likely have the right eguipment. A .5 to .1 though, eeek.

I notice this too. I just check my builds before a pulsate the coil to ensure there isnt a short, do my adjustments, then check again before vaping.

Generally an ohm variation of that magnitude, means a loose connection or a short. Possibly your positive leg is grounding out going through the base. That's the most likely culprit.

If you were building a rebuildable i'd say screw the posts down harder, but the exactness of your reading makes me think you broke one of the coils and i'd say throw it out and make another.

Nothing is harder to fix than erratic resistance readings.

I haven't started rebuilding yet but I've researched a lot and I'm excited to try.

I just want to say I'm glad you're being smart and safe. I've seen so many youtube videos where people have a general idea of what they are doing and just throw a coil together and don't even test it to see what the reading is at. They just squint at it and say "yeahhhh that looks about right!".

What are you reading resistance with?
When I build coils, the resistance is higher off the post, like when torching.
When attached & trimmed, resistance will go down. A broken coil should read open, no signal. I always suggest an auto ranging DMM, nothing less. Stay safe..

If you could post pics of the coil it would help diagnose the problem.

Diagnosis, you fraked something up. look at everything, check for touching wires, bends or snaps, looseness and tightness. Pulsing coil while exposed can often clue in the problem when observed. Time to build a new fence said el e Phant. Carnegie Hall time, try, try again. lmao.

Well I made 4 more coils and the same thing happend to them all after adding the juice.I used different juice for all 4.
