Coil Rebuilds - Getting Ohms Too Low

I've been playing with rebuilding Protank coils with cotton wicks. They come out ok, but I'm getting my ohms too low, like 0.5, 0.6, etc. I'm using Kanthal 32 with 4 to 5 wraps. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! JD

I'm also getting a bit of a tight draw, but I'm guessing I probably have too much wick in there.

Sounds like there is metal to metal contact somewhere. coils touching each other? Positive leg touching the head before the coils?

sounds like 28 gauge kanthel, not 32 with that many wraps. Are you certain it's 32 gauge kanthel?

Yes, it's 32. I got it from Temco. But, I think Penn was right about the metal to metal contact. I just did another and got 1.8.

I did the same thing last night, That's exactly what was happening

Somethings not right, that's for sure. . 32g should measure 1.3ohms/inch. So your run of the mill 2.7ohm coil requires 2 inches of wire.

Im glad you figured it out. Youll get better with a little practice. Making a coil with something as thick as a hair take a little time to develop the skill.

Yup it gets a lot easier with practice. This video helped me a lot when I started building coils.

For me, 5 wraps with 32g Kanthal in a microcoil yields a 1.6-1.7ohm coil. Almost every time. Unless I "F" up.
