It's the darker sweeter juices that will kill a carto/clearo in no time. We in the DYI sub forum are very aware of this and make our own juices with that in mind. When we make juices we tend to stay away from the dark creams/cake flavors or over sweetening. If the juice is that good then we put up with the constant cleaning, dry burning or coil rebuilding required to vape these.

As well as a possible e-liquid issue, PT coils can be all over the map in terms of quality.

I go through 5-packs sometimes where none of the coils lasts more than a day or two. Cleaning can help, though personally I've never had much success in this regard.

Once you get more comfortable with your PT2, you might consider building your own coils -- there's pages upon pages of great threads showing ways to do this. It's not all that hard, with a little practice. Using alternative wick materials can give you far better coils than the tailor mades. You'll need to reach five posts in the New Members forum before you can check out other forums containing info about rebuilding PT heads. Plenty of stuff on YouTube as well.

Welcome to ECF btw.

Another possibility is that the stock/authentic coils arent good. I noticed on some new heads, ordered in last 2 months, that they produce burned tastes occasionally. Thats because one wrap/starting wrap is slightly bigger than others in coil and it doesnt provide contact to the silica and the wire starts glowing when vaping. Kangertech quality went down...

I was just reading a thread and someone said they were getting burnt/bad tasting hits w/ 1.8 or even 2.2 ohm coils, and that 2.5 was a better fit for them. I will say that vanilla flavoring seems to be pretty sensitive to how hot the coil gets. My fav is a blueberry/vanilla combo, and I LOVE the taste of it. But if I take hits too quickly the coil gets hot, and the flavor isn't nearly as great. Once it cools down it's fine, but if it gets to the point of burning gunk on the coil, it'd taste BAD all the time.

yeah Suzanne, Vanilla is a atomizer cruncher, i ordered some Double Vanilla one time and the atomizers were wrecked and wouldnt burn it, also if your using 80 percent or more VG and vaping a lot that can wreck em quick too, its too thick too wick.

ReMember this rule of thumb: If your liquid is too thick, your atomizer if you use it real often aint worth a lick.

Im running my Protank 2 with 2.2 ohm coils, sometimes the 2.5 ohm. I haven't really had TOO much bad luck with them, but in a new box of 2.2 heads, I had one so far that I wasn't able to draw (inhale) off of. I tried everything with that coil, and nothing lol. My current 2.4 ohm coil Im using is the one that came installed in the protank a week ago, and I use some fairly thick/heavy juices. Ive cleaned it twice, and the second time I was dryburning it, I noticed something....one of the end coils was up against the side of the base a little. I used a pin and moved the coil just a bit away, and WOW, what a difference in my vape. Before that, it was ohming at 2.6 ohms, after the adjustment, it was ohming right at 2.2. Hope this helps ;)

Take the time to learn how to rebuild the ProTank heads. Wrap them with microcoils, stuff them with cotton. Then at the first hint of a burnt taste, you can pull the wick, dry burn, and replace the cotton. It takes less then 5 minutes once you have it down.

Some tips... If you already have a handful of burnt coils... rebuild all of them.. make it a little project over coffee with a friend. Also, if you own a Sonicare toothbrush, next time you replace the head, save the old one for cleaning parts, they work wonders. And lastly.. Cotton ball for your main wick, and 100% cotton yarn or butchers twine pulled apart to individual strands for flavor wicks, use 2-4 depending on the juice you will be using, and how hefty your main wick is. You'll get the hang of it after a while.

Welcome! Ask questions, learn, and stay smoke free!!!!!!!!! Huzzah!

Good advice above. A couple things I found

1) Rinse the wicks under running water at least daily goes a long way in preserving their life. My observation is that the wicks clog and stop wicking juice to the coil. Regular rinsing ends this cycle and you should be good until your coil gets gunked. However, once the gunk/wick gets baked, you'll not get it clean without a dry burn or new wicks.
2) If you don't mind the expense, you can replace heads every day or two when flavor production drops below acceptable.
3) If you're cheap (like me), it's pretty quick and straight forward to replace the coil and wicks using premade/prewrapped. You can get a package of 50 for around $10.
4) If you want to go next step, there's plenty of expertise and information to be found here.

Cheers!

Are you talking about pre made pre wrapped coils? I have never heard of that before. Can you provide a link?

Yeah, that was me! I switched from 1.5 and 1.8 to 2.5 attys for my Davide tanks[same as Protank attys] and Im not getting any burnt tastes or hits, and Im on day 3 for the atty im using now! If I get like 5 days Im happy. I can get [20] 2.5ohm attys on ebay for $25/shipped, so I dont care if they only last 5 days. Since switching to 2.5s, I am having a much more enjoyable time vaping :) And I smoke mine a LOT, so 5 days for me is probably half of what a normal user would use :)

So I would suggest switching to 2.5 attys for your PTs. Hope this helps, because it worked for me, and im much happier in the end!
