I'm just getting into rewinding some coils for my protank2's. My collection of burnt out coils is growing, so it's time to do something about it. I have some 34 ga kanthal, a 5/32" drill bit, and 100% cotton yarn from Wallyworld. What do you recomend for windings with the 34 ga? 7 over 6? 6 over 5? 5 over 4? I'm looking for around 2.2 - 2.4 ohms and don't have a meter accurate enough to measure it.

I don't have 34. I only have 30 & 32. That being said 34 is going to be higher in resistance per inch so I'd guess 5/4 maybe even 4/3 but I think I'd start with 5/4.

IMPORTANT You should never fire a coil without testing it's resistance after it's completely finished (installed in the metal head). My main concern would be if it was shorted. Good luck!

Cheers,
Steve

Can't help ya with 34g, but with 32g I do 5 wraps on a 5/64 drill bit.

GET A METER :)

I have a meter, I have 3 meters. They all read different, so which one is right? There is not an affordable meter made that is truly accurate. You can have 10 meters, all the same, and they will all read different. I stand by that statement being an electronics tech for 35 years. I've been out of the business since the cheapo electronics invaded the country and no one fixes anything anymore. I sold all my expensive equipment. I'll have to dig out my old analog I guess and some 1% tolerance resistors to calibrate it. 10 - 20 ohm 1% resistors in parallel is 2 ohms +/- .02 ohms. Thats close enough. Now to try to remember where I boxed it all up. I was just looking for a place to start to try and save some trial and error.

Finally broke down and got one of these off flea-bay.
Tired of pushing the button on my Provari 13 times.
My dmm readings were all over the place.

That's what I got and it's close enough to suit me. I have a multi meter and I can measure a coil 4 times and get 4 different readings lol. Now I just screw my RDA into that little gizmo and make sure I'm close to what I'm looking for. For years I'd been using 32g kanthal wire wrapped around 3mm silica wick in a dripper and it worked just fine. But recently I started reading some threads in another forum about how wonderful micro coils & cotton wick is in a Kayfun tank so decided I'd give it a try. Major PITA to me. More work, takes longer, funky tasting cotton and tanks leak. Not to mention my eyesight ain't what it used to be and it's hard as hell to get cotton threaded thru a 5/64" channel. So now I'm back to dripping my homemade juice in my Trident for pennies a day, enjoying it more and ain't got juice running all down the side of my mod. Happy vaping no matter which route you decide to take.

I did up a few 6/5's and I am impressed. It worked out first time too, after I got over some fumbles. Ditched the drill bit and found a computer screw in my parts box with a really fine thread the right diameter, that worked much better. Esp on old eyes that can't see nothing any more. Wound up 3 more in no time flat. Going to do a few 5/4's to compare. Tastes much better with cotton. Much better. I'm hooked. Thanks for the help guys.
