Getting off smokes I've got the titled gear with not much idea how to make coils. I'd like to ask:

1. What type/guage/coil diameter of wire should I use make coils and what resistance should I aim for. Please be specific.

2. Is it OK to test resistance on my mod?

3. From what I've read Sony VTC4 batteries are a good match for this mod?

Hi and welcome,

Watch a few YT videos about building the TBV3.: Note wire type, wraps and power applied.
If you are new to rebuilding, a pack of premade coils may be a better place to start than some random spools of wire.

I don’t have that RTA, but I agree with Izan, YouTube and remade coils are a good way to start. Coil preference is unique to each of us, so I can tell you a bit about what I like (not much, because I’ve only been building a few weeks) but I have no idea what would work best for you.

The pre made ones, you can try all sorts of shapes and sizes and narrow down your search quite quickly.

Steam engine has a free calculator which I use to figure wraps and diameter to wind coils.

I check them on my mods that have short protection, or an old beater mod.

The Pico works nicely with all batteries.
I often use an old style 3,400 with a low amp rating. The VTC4 may not be the best combination of amp/battery life and power for your £/$.
Actually that particular battery is not on many vapers shopping list. Don't get carried away with the hype around very heavy duty batteries, most are not necessary I.m.o.

Oh, two 0.5 ohm premades would be a great place to start. I try to wrap 0.6 (x2) for dual coil rdas getting 0.3 overall. You have to experiment a little to find what works.

I can't find the like button on my mobile phone, so I'm 'liking' this post the old fashioned way. I particularly agree about testing the resistance on a mod. My DMM doesn't see much use these days. It was certainly worth the $8 back when mechs were the only way to vape 35watts.

Am traveling for many months wo/ vape shops or any means to resupply. I need to be self sufficient. Would like to just be able to make my own coils.

Maybe someone could give me a starting point?

It's really hard to give you a "target" although someone early on telling me to just use 28 gauge stainless steel was helpful (although I'm a MTL vaper) but that gauge gave me a reasonable starting point, it was easy enough to manipulate, although I certainly cannot say for sure that is the case for you. I'd probably suggest buying some smaller spools and experimenting, really. If you think you will want to use TC mode, well stainless steel is nice because you can use it in either mode. But start experimenting now so that you can gather materials you need and whatnot, and also, you might want to try small amounts of different type of cotton wick and even rayon (which is really inexpensive most folks use Sally's Rayon Cellucotton bought in store or on line, and I'm fairly certain even a small box would set you back little and give you enough wick to last a LONG time). I am one who prefers rayon VASTLY over cotton, and it does last longer and withstand higher temperatures better than cotton, although some people also prefer cotton and etc.
