I personally don't use it just because I like to just build and can guage where it's gonna end up. But it is a fantastic site with so many options and calculators.
I am gonna have to disagree with you 93gc40 about the nicer coils. A Clapton or fused Clapton or alien will give a much better vape with tons more flavor than standard wire. Some are just coil porn though.

That where the personal preference kicks in....

I have yet to get good flavor from claptons.. MORE flavor? Yes... Better no. I do think I could get good flavor from a clapton if I spent more time building them. But my main issue with the really fancy builds is the crappy battery life they result in.

I use simple 26 gauge Kanthal round wire coils built to .8-1 ohm. I tootle along at 8-10 watts. Fanny coils need much more power. I would rather have longer battery life.

Or 2 strands of the 32 either parallel or twisted together....... the multi wire coil will give better flavor than the 28.. more surface area while being very close electrically.

Yeah I don't think I'm ready for twisted. I don't even know what it is.

Yeah I don't think I'm ready for twisted. I don't even know what it is.

Twisted is just about the simplest "fancy" thing you can do with coil wire. Straighten out your wire, fold it back on itself once and load the 2 tips into a drill. Hold the "looped" end with a pair of pliers or an allen key or anything that will hold it tight really. Start the drill slowly then gradually pick up speed. The wire twists up nice and evenly and eventually snaps either at the drill or at the pliers, giving you one long piece of twisted wire.

In my opinion this is a really easy way to up the flavor production of your build. Does more flavor always mean better flavor? Not necessarily, can depend on the juice you're using and the heat your coils produce(hence the TC craze). Does more wire require more wattage? Yes if you want quick ramp up times.

If you're not into sub-ohm vaping then even twisted coils might not be for you. I might recommend picking up some 28AWG or 26AWG and building in the 1.5ohm vacinity for a nice smooth flavorful vape. I find thicker wires are easier to work with and make better looking coils. All Ive ever used 32AWG was as the outer wire on a really poor attempt at making a clapton(still working on that skill), or twisting it up.

I've twisted wire like that before. Why I can't remember. I don't think I'll do it. Not into subohm vaping it's too hot for me. Burns my poor lips and tongue.

Don't need to subohm... beside ohm doesn't determine heat.. that is determine by the mass of the coil and amount of volts you feed it. Ohm just determines the output wattage.

Also don't need a drill..... couple hooks and a weight is all I use to make twisted wire.

True enough, but twisting on a drill is much quicker

I have a lot to learn. Care to elaborate. Or point me in the right direction?

Take to long to really explain.. it's all just basic elementary school physical science.

Inputs and outputs.. cause and affect..

Volts are the input. Watts is the output.

I was partially wrong above re heat....because while the higher ohm coil may be hotter. The fact that it is smaller.. could result in less heat being transmitted. Big flame vs small flame kinda thing. While the flames themselves may be the same temperature. A campfire produces more heat than a candle. Hinse the burned lips while subohming.... thing is if you are using a regulated mod you don't need subohm to heat a big coil. Unregulated the volts are fixed. Or only what the battery has available. So you have to change resistance to change the output.

This whole forum is for vaping chatterboxes, and I do read to learn. I have run across many a vaper that doesn't get involved. They just keep it simple and continue to not smoke. A lot of simple Kanthal builders out there.

Vaping is a big world. Room for all. Happy vaping.

I'm living proof of that. I ask all kinds of questions and get great answers

I highly recommend using steam engine for all builds. Learn to use the Heat Flux calculator. For regulated mods it helps you find a wattage range without overheating your coils and when using mechs it helps find a good "build zone" resistance wise for telling type of coils you want to use as well as what Guage you're using

I sub Ohm all tge time. I vape at 8-10 watts on a .8 ohm coil. My short Kayfun gives a nice cool vape.

8 wraps on a 2 mm diameter
6 wraps on a 2.5 mm diameter

Both 26 gauge.

Hot vape is caused by big watts or the airflow being almost closed and not enough airflow to cool tge the coils.

@Two_Bears , so am I as a daily doing. I have noticed that American products have so much flavor, and it is all chemical and for sales. We come to think it is normal and expected. I sometimes travel back to Lancaster, PA (Mennonites) and the ice cream is made of sugar, cream and blocks of natural chocolate mixed together. Not nearly like national brands. In Sierra Vista I stopped eating Doritos and enjoyed Mamita's salsa picante.

It is just an example, but I don't need fancy coils. I read a bit back about super-concentrates...to all their own way, I suppose. There are a huge number of possibilities and directions to go in vaping, but that doesn't say I have to go there.

Nice to try things, though.

I'd suggest "planning" your coil using Steam Engine.
Then if it measures dramatically different than you expect, something's wrong - like a loose contact, etc.
If you're using 32 gauge Kanthal, getting to 1.2 ohms is only like 3 wraps, depending on length of leg and diameter.
To get a 1.2 ohm coil with about 7 wraps, get some 28 gauge

I watched many a YouTube video on building a microcoil. Well today at the vape shop I bought some unknown brand rba in the clearance bin. They said it was as easy to build as the Russian 91 I was currently vaping. Having no other rba atm and for $5.99 I took it home.

I took it apart. The deck looked similar to the Russian and having installed a coil on it before but not building it I was thinking piece of cake. I got out some wire I was told was 32 ga kanthal. I built what looked to be pretty decent coil for the first time and I installed it. Not hard. But it turned out to be .70 ohms. I don't care for subohms so I took it off and for our a new roll of labelled 32 gauge kanthal. I tried again. This time my coil sucked. So I tried 2 more times before I got one that looked decent. Then I realized you have to wind it around the posts counterclockwise. Messed that one up. New coil.
Finally I have a coil that came out at 2.4 ohms. I was aiming for 1.2. I wicked it. I'm leaving it for now. I want to try the mother's milk I bought damn it.

Long story short why did I come out 2.4 ohms? It was only 7 wraps.
