Could you please show your mod from the top? And tap at the center of your phone screen to focus on the mod. I am guessing if you have rebuilt it, one of the end of the coil is touching the other. Usually, that over heats the coils faster and show you random ohms, fries your coil and turns it brown, and the middle portion black. I am also guessing that your ohms were bouncing (man that came out wrong.) On the serious note, if it is a mecha mod then there maybe no way to tell but if you have a temp control mod then mount your build on it and fire it for 10 sec, look at the ohm meter while you are doing so.

I'd be very concerned if there's tarnish in your atty. On the other hand, the discoloration of your coil may just be the usual gunk that could build up depending on your juice. Before I re-wick, I dryburn first then take a wet toothbrush and gently brush the coil very lightly...it removes any leftover burnt gunk after dryburning, then rinse it before re-wicking it. You'll be surprised that it'll look and perform just like a fresh coil. On a different note, it does seem that your coils might not be firing evenly.

Couple of things I've noticed. Dual coils not consistent in look.
Darker coil is not as secure and heating less.
Darker Coil is always to the low side while Vaping.
Darker coil has an extra wrap.

Discarded Toothbrush works great for cleaning decks. Many small nylon brushes available for specialty cleaning.
I have one, like a tooth brush on one side with much longer bristles on the other. Works great for cleaning inside RTA chimneys and drip tips.
