I'm building a simple 3.7v mod and I would like the safety of a spring that will collapse in the case of a short circuit... I don't know where to look. It has to have enough heft to support an 18650, but I don't want some crazy big spring like the large one madvapes sells. anyone know where i can snag one? do most battery springs do this?

thanks for the link. those springs are not to be used as a "fuse" in mods. they just offer lower resistance than the others. I wanna use aw imr batts (unprotected safe chemistry.) There are springs made to collapse when extreme heat is applied (like that of a short circuit) allowing the cell to fall away from the positive contact breaking the circuit. unless yo have read somewhere that those springs do that...?

Thanx WillyB, I just may use that. I like the idea of it being resettable, and therefore not needing a new one if the mod ever shorts out. and with 7x5x.75mm I am sure I would have plenty of room in the mod. and at 50 cents, I would be able to get a bunch. I will get some advice from my father in law (industrial electrician) and I will more than likely go that route, after all its like having a circuit breaker in your mod!

They also make a circuit that has a series device that senses current and shuts off current flow in milli-seconds if it exceeds a preprogrammed level. They are available in 3 amp and 6 amp versions. They also automatically reset. You can find them in many different applications (not just e-cig mods). They also shut down the circuit if you try and vape a cell below a safe voltage. Here's a description of how one example operates:
