Here I am messing with a 510 adapter that I took apart to make my Mad Modz Reactor work on my regular grand and I heard a sound I've never heard before and bye bye spring!

I have stretched the spring out and using my RM2 again, it'll fire and works as it did before. Should I be concerned about the VTC5 that I was using, did I damage the battery?

Aside from the spring never collapsing again, is it safe to use it as stretched out until my new spring arrives? Or, should I use my silver spring from before the SO kit?

Welcome to the club

I've fried 2 of them. The first time I threw out the battery just to be safe. The second time, I tested the voltage and all was well, been using it since with no issues. The collapsing spring prevented any damage to the battery, as far as I can tell.

As far as the spring, I would stick to the old silver spring. If you reuse the fried one, it may not give you any protection in the event of another short.

The short occurred at the 510 connection. The adapter I was using was a "modders" adapter, so it easily came apart. I took it apart and put it back together out of curiousity and I made just to be extra careful around the silicon insulator and the pin, it looked good and was center. However, the bottom part of the pin (the part that connects to the Reo) was not straight, it was at an angle which caused it after being screwed down to come in contact with the wall of the 510 connection. aaaaand boom

This could quite possibly be the reason(s) why Rob is not in favor of using extenders or adapters on a Reo.

Sounds like something future mechanical mods will have. :thumb:
Actually it's a mod we did while waiting for the gold plated beryllium copper contacts. Allowed us to go to lower ohms and reduced the voltage drop.

Always wondered about that fuse...is 10A the max you can push on it?

Yes you can go higher, it takes it longer to blow so pulling higher than 10 amps for the short time we have the fire button pushed does not blow it. But a hard short will blow it right away.

here's a pic to give you an idea, the new spring performs much better and is now in this mod instead.
