First I have to thank Rob, he is the best. I replaced the collapsed spring in my Tumbled Grand. It is as good as new. When it collapsed, I was using a 306 atomizer. I had been using it for almost 4 weeks. I had cleaned it regularly. Just before the spring collapsed, I had a few burnt hits. It was the last one that collapsed the spring. Is this usually a warning sign? I am afraid to use another 306 for fear of another collapse.

It's not the style of the atty that causes the spring to collapse, that could have easily happened with a 510 atty too....it is usually caused by the center pin in the atomizer being tilted or sticking out too far. When screwed on to the mod, the center pin on the connector comes into contact with the one on the atty. If either of these are out of place, then adding pressure to them can cause them to be pushed to the side, compressing the insulating gasket to a point where the metal comes into contact with the outside threaded area, causing the short. I'm sure there may be other causes, but this is the most common.

Here is a picture showing the connector side so you can see what I'm talking about.

I use LR306 all the time. I have had plenty of them quit like you said. Just vaping and then it died. Not had one spring collapse. I have had burnt hits without having a spring collapse. You may never know why that happened.

You could have metered the atty after and see what it read. That might tell you something.

I don't think other 306 attys are more likely to cause a short than any other atty or cartos. IMHO.
