The difference between the old spring and the gold spring is night and day, my 0.5 ohm build feels like a 1 ohm build. Maybe it's all in my head, but that new spring can't come fast enough! Got 2 extra screws in case I get fumbly, lol.
Not in your head. I did some tests on Woodville before and after gold spring swap. with a 1.23 ohm coil the old spring had .14 voltage drop increase. With your .5 ohm that would be an even bigger hit to actual coil voltage.
I know of two ways a short can occur on mechanical mods.
1) Accidentally pressing the fire button while working on a coil. (I know. You should always remove battery)
2) The coil touching the cap, posts, or bowl edge.
My one and only collapsed spring was caused by using a brand new steel drip tip that went too far into the RM2 chamber. It made contact with the top of positive post. Poof.
It took me awhile to figure out what it was. I just happened to glance inside the RM2 cap with the drip tip on and thought: "oh hell that's sticking a bit far in, now isn't it." Stuck it on my 510 meter box, pressed down on the drip tip, and .7Ω went straight to .01Ω.
Thanks for taking the time to put in a photo to illustrate. I was just about ready to start raving about how great of an idea this would be to incorporate into a Reo Grand, but then I thought... the Spring will collapse and do the same thing.
