Collapsed spring

I just had my second spring collapse in a month from a short leading to me tossing another atty into the trash even though it looked fine and was flush on the bottom.

Could the battery be doing this and not a direct short? I never threw the battery away on the first spring melt and it could be that it was the same battery.

Could be, but I bet Rob would want you to contact him directly...could be a bad gasket. Don't toss your battery yet. Send him a PM or email.

My collapsed spring streak led to a rebuild of my REO Grand. Rob will get you sorted out and back at it in no time at all.

just a tip from someone who has been there:

If you collapse a spring check the bottom of the actual firing button to see if you melted it. If you melted it badly enough you will require a rebuild because the button will not properly engage the firing pin.

i have a mini but it's not the same, to me. that's why i'm seriously considering getting another grand. for now, the mini will do in a pinch.

Sure was a cozy feeling anticipating losing power during Sandy, knowing I had FOUR REOs and 14 batteries (and a way to recharge them).
